How to Get Started with Drawing your “Ranch House”

Ranch House #1 CADD Floor Plan

1.  Open up a new project. Click: “Create a New Project”

2.  Make sure that the “Set up Work Environment” window is set to

“Default Profile”

3.  Now click on “NEW”.

4.  Go to “File” click on, “Save as” and in the dialog box, type:

Ranch House #1-Walls, add your initials and the current date,

for the File name.

Example: Ranch House #1-Walls, WEK 12-25-12

Click .

5.  Start drawing your exterior walls by clicking on tab.

6.  Change the height setting of the wall height to 9’.

7.  Now look for the Info Box, pick to allow you to draw Chained walls.

8.  Now draw the 25’ X 50’ exterior walls starting from the “X” in the lower left of the drawing area.

Use the default settings for the exterior walls.

Adding Dimensions

1.  After placing your exterior walls you need to dimension them. This will assure that the walls are correctly sized.

2.  First increase the given dimension number size before placing dimensions double click on the tab in the column, The window will open, look for the cell high light the 6.75 and change this to 12.00, hit Enter. This will make your dimensions easier to read.

3.  Now, add the Exterior wall dimensions 25’ X 50”. (50’ Dim. under the front wall, and 25’ Dim. to the right side wall.)

Laying Out Your Interior Walls

1.  You will now need to located your ¼” graph paper draft of your ranch house. You will work from this information to layout your interior walls.

2.  Now change the wall settings to interior and set to .

3.  Begin to place all of the longer 4 1/2" interior walls. Placing the longer walls with their dimensions first will make it easier to place the shorter walls.

4.  Layout a few of the smaller wall areas and dimension them inside the larger wall segments as you as you proceed.

5.  Repeat this process until all of the interior walls are placed. Large walls first then the shorter walls.

6.  Remember, you do not make an opening for the doors or windows, you will drop them in later.

7.  Please Note: You will need to adjust the room sizes to reflect the differences from the 1/8” (6”) wall thickness we used on the graph paper. You are working now with 9” thick exterior and 4 ½” thick interior walls.

8.  It is always best to have a classmate look over your CADD drawing comparing it with your ¼” graph paper drawing. They may see something you missed.

9.  Next: Add your information and print your Ranch House #1-Walls

10. Now in the dialog box, type (If needed, or just hit save)

Ranch House #1-Walls, add your initials and the current date,

11. Print this out to be handed in. Please follow setup instructions.

Printing Setup Instructions

A.  Click on “File” to get drop down menu and select “Page set up”

B.  Next select the printer and click on

C.  “Landscape” option. Click “OK”.

D.  Click again on “File” and select “Print”, select “Fit to Page”

E.  Now click on . You should now be printing.

F.  Hand this in for your grade. Be safe, and save your work again, Hit SAVE.

Ranch House #2 Windows

If needed open up your Ranch House #1-Walls

Next: Save your drawing as: Ranch House #2 Windows

Go to “File” click on, “Save as”. Then in the dialog box, type Ranch House #2 Windows, add your initials and today’s date, for the File name.

Example: Ranch House #2 Windows, WEK 8-26-14 Click Save.

1.  Now that you completed your exterior and interior walls you will add the windows to your ranch house.

2.  Look at your ¼” graph paper drawing and select the same size windows you used. If they are 3’ wide find a 3’ window in ArciCADD and place it into the same relative place. In most cases you should be using the same style of window on all of the exterior walls.

3.  Select the type of windows from ArciCADD’s list.

You can select the style/type of window you want.

There are several Styles to choose from, you should keep your chooses

for the most part from the same style. ie:

It’s your decision on which type!

4.  Take time to explore your window options.

5.  Please have a classmate or myself check the window layout with you for correctness before printing.

Make sure that all of the windows are facing the correct way.

6.  Next: Update your information and print your Ranch House #2-Windows (Floor Plan)

Hand in to be graded.

If needed open up your Ranch House #2-Windows

Next: Save your drawing as: Ranch House #3 Doors

In the dialog box, type Ranch House #3 Doors, add your initials

and today’s date, for the File name.

Example: Ranch House #3 Doors, WEK 10-20-14 Click Save.

1.  Now that you completed your windows, you will add the doors to your ranch house.

2.  Look at your ¼” graph paper drawing and select the same size doors you used. If it is a 3’ door, find 3’ doors in ArciCADD and place it into the same relative place. In most cases you should be using the same style of doors on all of the interior walls.

3.  Take time to explore your door style options.

4.  Keep in mind how the door should swing into the room.

5.  Please have a classmate or myself check the door layout with you for correctness before printing.

6.  Next: Update your information and print your Ranch House #3-Doors(Floor Plan)

Update the below information placing it to the lower left:

7.  Hand in to be graded. Click Save.

Ranch House #4 3-D Views

If needed open up your: Ranch House #3-Doors

Next: Save your drawing as: Ranch House #4 3-D Views

In the dialog box, type Ranch House #4 3-D Views, add your initials and today’s date,

for the File name.

Example: Ranch House #4 3-D Views, WEK 2-3-14 Click Save.

Next: You will print out two, 3D views of your Ranch House.

Step:

1.  With your floor plan open look in the window.

2.  Look for and click on .

3.  Now click on , This will help you to move your 3D floor plan so you can see the front right corner.

4.  Follow the steps laid out for the “Paint” program explained for the Lake cabin.

5.  Next: Add your information and print your Ranch House #4 3-D Views.

Add this information: Drawn By: (Your Name)

Date: (Current Date)

Period: (Class Period)

Score: ____/60pts.

NEXT:

6.  To complete this, print out a second 3D view looking at the back right corner of the house.

7.  Add your information and print this as well.

8.  These two 3D printouts together are worth 60pts, 30 pts. each. Hand in both to be graded.

9.  Hit SAVE.

Ranch House #5 Text

Save your drawing as Ranch House #5 Text

In the dialog box, type Ranch House #5-Text, add your initials and today’s date,

for the File name.

Example: Ranch House #5-Text, WEK 2-5-14 Click Save.

Next: You will label all of the rooms of your Ranch House.

1.  Open up your floor plan file for “Ranch House #3-Doors”.

2.  You will need to remove all of the interior measurements, select the tab.

3.  Now move the cursor over the dimension line, it will turn a deep blue color. Right click on it and the click on , this will remove the dimension.

4.  Look in the and click on the tab.

5.  Center the Label to each of the rooms as the example shows.

6.  Change the letter font to 12. Click on the text and look for. Type in the 12.

7.  Add the room name and size.

8.  Add the: Drawn By: (Name)

9.  Save Ranch House #5-Text, and Print this out. Hand in to be graded.

Ranch House #6 The Slab Floor

Save your drawing as: Ranch House #6-Slab, add your initials and today’s date,

for the File name.

Example: Ranch House #6-Slab, WEK 1-27-13 Click Save.

Next: You will add a slab floor to your Ranch House.

1.  Open up your floor plan file for “Ranch House #5”.

2.  Click on the 3D icon, this should give you a 3D view of your Ranch House. (RH)

3. Now click on the Orbit tool, and use this to orbit/move the RH so you can view the bottom of it.

4. Next click on the SLAB tool . Click on all four corners of the RH and you will see when you click on the fourth corner that the slab will appear.

5. You will now need to hit the “Print Screen” key to copy your 3d view.

7.  Open up the Paint program in the Accessories fly out menu. Click on “Edit”, then “Paste”.

7. You will now click on the icon. Place a box around the 3D RH Slab view,

right click and select “Copy”.

8. Go to “File” then “New”, select “Edit” then “Paste”. Center the 3Dview.

9. Click on the and then at the lower left of your 3D view to create a text box for your

information.

Next: Add your information and print your Ranch House #6 Slab View. Print and hand in to be graded.

Ranch House #7 Bathroom

Open up your floor plan file for “Ranch House #6”, In the dialog box, Save as:

Ranch House #7, Bathroom, add your initials and today’s date, for the File name.

Example: Ranch House #7, Bathroom, ERK 12-2-13

1.  Click on theicon in the “Tool Box” column.

2.  Next find and open up , click on the + to expand this folder.

3.  Look for and click on , you will see a lot of toilets appear. Select the style you want and place it.

Next you will add a sink with or without a cabinet.

4.  Click on, then , then Select the style(s) you want and place it.

Next you will add a Tub.

5.  Select the folder, then “Bathtub 13”, and click .
