PARKER COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

2013-2014 AUGUST PLANNING MEETING

Celebrating PCRTA’s 40th year, President Louretta Evans led officers and committee chairpersons in an August planning meeting. Enthusiasm ran high as Evans inspired us to make the 2013-2014 year the best one yet with a great emphasis on ways to serve our community.

PROGRAMS

Averaging an attendance of 100 monthly, PCRTA has provided a myriad of informative and entertaining programs this year. In September David Orcutt, CEO of Weatherford Regional Medical Center, brought us up to date on the increasingly better health care being provided at the hospital. Bringing us up to date on county affairs in October was County Judge Mark Riley. Broadening our horizons to the state level, Phil King spoke in November, encouraging us with good news about the Texas economy.

Members treated each other to their best dishes at the Christmas buffet, followed by an energetic performance by the Klassy Kloggers. In January Dr. Harold Lawrence from the Museum of the Americas opened a window into the rich heritage and living traditions of indigenous peoples from the Americas. In February Wally Wallace provided money-saving insurance tips, and in March Jason Spencer and Linsey Schofield, Weatherford Regional Health Care Physical Therapy, spoke on utilizing movement specialists to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Members enjoyed the annual April auction. Officer installation in May will conclude the year.

REACHING OUT TO SERVE

Serving others has, indeed, been a hallmark for the PCRTA this year. It all began in August when officers visited Parker County schools to deliver candy and good wishes for an outstanding school year. Left is Bonnie Wallace, making a delivery. On the right are officers Brad Tibbitts, Bonnie Wallace, Kathryn Jordan, and Louretta Evans, delivering a thank you scroll to Phil King’s district manager Judy Flanagin, in appreciation of support for SB 1458.

Prissy Neely, Elaine Little, and Jerre Dale are excited about the numerous magazines brought by members for residents at local health care centers.

February was a lovely month! Shown on the left are Gail Humphreys and Bonnie Wallace with numerous valentines brought by members to share with residents of local care centers. On the right Louretta Evans and Kay Crumley prepare cups of Valentine treats which officers served to all members at the February meeting.

Members have given over $800 to purchase 500 books for the Children’s Book Project to donate to Weatherford Community Education who will provide these to children in the community.

The unit reported over 20,000 volunteer hours this year.

Great programs, wonderful meals organized by our Food Service Committee, lovely fellowship, and opportunities to serve have blessed our lives this year.

We are inspired by President Louretta Evans who says, “It’s not what we say about our blessings, but it’s how we use them” and “the smallest good deed is better than the greatest good intention.”
