Department overview
The office of the Deputy CEO is responsible for the implementation of an exciting innovation and collaboration project which creates opportunities for the joint exploration of new ideas and solutions to enhance workplace productivity, recognising the need for industry and training providers to work together. This project has been designed to address the following objectives:
- the training and TAFE system delivers high-quality skills training that is relevant and responsive to evolving industry needs and business training requirements
- partnerships between training providers and industry or employers are strengthened
- workforces are equipped with the skills needed for identified future growth sectors and new and emerging industries
- industry and/or business productivity is improved through training and TAFE system involvement in industry-based applied research
The collaborative project overseen by South West Institute of TAFE (SW TAFE) and will focus on three components.
- Building localised, future focussed evidence of skills needs
- A new approach to career development and management for current and future workers
- Design and delivery of high-quality skills training that responds to industry needs and latest research on the future of work.
Position overview/your opportunity
The Senior Educator is an experienced educational professional who provides support to the project with responsibilityfor encouraging educational excellence in the development and delivery of programs and educational services and leading and motivating professional teaching staff in their adoption of 21 Century learning technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- The Senior Educator is a highly skilled educational leader with acknowledged excellence in academic leadership and a demonstrated ability to continue to develop the educational areas of responsibility
- Demonstrates a high level of theoretical, educational and operational knowledge in all professional interactions both within, and external to the Institute;
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to meeting the training and educational needs of a diverse range of clients;
- Works collaboratively with key clients, and utilises a professional body of knowledge to determine strategies and programs to facilitate the delivery of superior programs and services to client groups.
- Displays significant initiative, sound judgment and reliable leadership at all times in carrying out the requirements of the position
- Provides a high level of accountability in the achievement of the Institute’s educational and business objectives as they relate to the Division’s operations
- Demonstrates a high level of theoretical, educational and operational knowledge in all professional interactions both within, and external to the Institute
- Cleary defines role expectations, monitors performance, provides timely and constructive feedback and facilities student development
- Requires the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information, as well as the ability to use initiative to identify appropriate and relevant solutions to identified issues
- Effectively manage the human resource management and supervision of staff to lead, motivate and monitor staff, including the conduct of performance management reviews, and professional development, to ensure optimum performance within a team environment
- Utilises a professional body of knowledge to determine strategies and programs to facilitate the delivery of superior programs and services to client groups
- Competently utilise a variety of systems processes and sources to gather information to gain deeper understanding of the industry (as relevant to area of role)
- Develops and manages complex budgets and negotiates for resources annually
- Provide authoritative leadership, motivation and mentoring to a team of teaching and support staff across the full range of the specified teaching and program areas
- With the Director, assume responsibility for the achievement of the business objectives as identified in the SWTAFE strategy
- Liaise with specialist Support Team Managers and other relevant staff to report across the institute
- Comply with internal policies and procedures including the Code of Conduct
- Demonstrate the organisational values on a daily basis and proactively seeks to maintain a healthy and safe work environment
- The senior educator may undertake a teaching load as negotiated in consultation with their direct Manager
This position description describes in general terms the normal duties which the position is expected to undertake. However, the duties described may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility.
Key to success (Key Selection Criteria)
- High level written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Excellent personal presentation and the ability to relate well with people at all levels within andoutside the Institute.
- Knowledge of the education system, in particular the TAFE system, would be an advantage.
- Proven educational leadership and management skills, significant experience as a teacher or coordinator in one or more program areas of responsibility
- Demonstrated ability to promote the courses delivered by the Division within the region and beyond as well as a proven record in implementing and supporting flexible and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, including the use of new technologies
- A high level of interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills including the ability to establish strong links with business and regional agencies as well as the ability to negotiate effectively and work through issues constructively with staff, students and relevant stakeholders
Qualification/Requirements
Mandatory requirements
- Tertiary level qualification (or equivalent experience) in related field
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessmentand/or Diploma of VET
- Working with Children Check or a Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration (or ability to attain one) is a mandatory requirement of this position and satisfactory Police Check
Highly desirable requirements
- A relevant management qualification or commitment to undertake a qualification in management and leadership
