Job Description – Healthcare Assistant

Job Title: / Healthcare Assistant
Responsible to: / Senior Nurse Practitioner
Job Purpose: / To provide Healthcare Assistant support to the nurses and GPs to esupport the efficient and effective provision of the full range of clinical services to the patients of the Practice.
Prepare treatment rooms and treatment room equipment.
To maintain adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationery.
Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical
1. / To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the Nurses, Nurse Practitioner and General Practitioners
2. / Assistance at clinics ensuring patient care by chaperoning and assisting patients to dress and undress
3. / Conduct weight and height measurements, test and record blood pressure and blood sugar levels
4. / The testing and result recording of clinical specimens
5. / Provide assistance in minor operations ensuring patient care by chaperoning
6. / Conduct audiology screening
7. / Undertake ECG and Spirometry testing
8. / Conduct health checks for new patients
9. / Carry out routine patient dressings in accordance with Practice guidelines
10. / Overseeing the collection of clinical waste, ensuring appropriate storage prior to disposal
11. / Ensure correct cleaning and sterilisation of clinical equipment and working surfaces, preparing treatment rooms prior to use
12. / Ensure adequate infection control procedures in treatment and consulting rooms
Administration
13. / Check and record medical supplies on receipt
14. / Receive telephone messages in the treatment room, recording and transmitting them accordingly
15. / Develop and maintain clinical notices posted within the Practice
16. / Inputting of information onto the Practice clinical system
17. / Use of the Practice clinical system for patient searches for clinics and patient recall
General
18. / To ensure adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationery and maintain an effective stock management system
19. / Ensure adequate stock levels in stock room, treatment rooms, fridges and cupboards
20. / Check standard clinical supplies and stationery in GP consulting rooms.
21. / Any other reasonable duties which may be requested from time-to-time
