MINUTES OF THE ORDINARY MEETING

OF GEELONG MAJOR EVENTS

HELD AT CITY HALL

GHERINGHAP STREET, GEELONG

MONDAY 15DECEMBER 2014 COMMENCING AT 4.00PM

PRESENT:Cr Ron Nelson (Chair), Cr Bruce Harwood (arrived 4.45pm), Cr Kylie Fisher(arrived 4.20pm), Julie Stefanoff, Dean Anglin, Leigh McClusky, Russell Morris, Dean Frost (CEO proxy) and Roger Grant

Also present:Steve Bentley (Manager, Events Central Geelong & Waterfront),Kaz Paton (Manager, Arts & Culture),Paul Jane (Manager, Sport & Recreation), Sharon Cockerell (GME Executive Officer), and Zoe Ennis (Event Services unit).

OPENING:The Chairperson welcomed the committee and declared the meeting open at 4:01pm.

SECTION A – PROCEDURAL MATTERS:

2.DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST OR CONFLICTS OF INTEREST: Nil.

3.CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

J Stefanoffmoved, R Morris seconded –

That the Minutes of the Ordinary Meeting held on 17 November2014 be accepted as a true and accurate record of the meeting and be confirmed and signed.

4.MATTERS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MEETING: S Cockerell noted that the 2015 3x3 Basketball Tournament event has been confirmed at sponsorship of $15,000.

5.CORRESPONDENCE FOR NOTING:Nil

6.QUESTION TIME: Nil

SECTION B – PRESENTATIONS:

2018 Australian Regional Games – Ross Synot and Bob Spurling
Cr Ron Nelson welcomed the presenters and Ross Synot gave a presentation on 2018 Australian Regional Games (ARG). The ARG will be a not-for-profit association which develops, promotes and licences the concept of a regional, community-based games format. The ARG format will encourage participation in sports for all ages, ability and standards. The ARG will encourage local businesses and sporting organisations to take regional ownership of the format and return the benefits to their region.

SECTION C – REPORTS

  1. 2014/2015 BUDGET UPDATE

S Cockerell reported the budget reflects the decisions made at the November meeting. There are available funds of $2,905 for the remainder of the 2014/2015 financial year.

That Geelong Major Events considers the application in the confidential section of the meeting.

FUNDING EVALUATIONS:

  1. 2014 Mountain to Mouth (M~M2014: Geelong’s Extreme Arts Walk)
  2. 2014 National Celtic Festival
  3. 2014 Geelong Classic Dancesport Festival

The Geelong Major Events accepts the final reports, the GME post event evaluations and notes the officer’s comments.

SECTION D – FURTHER Business

  1. For Information

9.1Event related press cuttings - The Committee noted and reviewed the event related press cuttings for the period.

9.2Date of Next Meeting - Monday 16February 2015. (Note that there will not be a GME meeting held in January 2015). The Geelong Major Events Committee meeting will begin at 4:00pm at City Hall Meeting Room 3.

CLOSE OF MEETING

The meeting was closed to the public at 5.00pm on Monday 15December2014.

That Geelong Major Events close the meeting to the public in accordance with Section 89 (2) (d) of the Local Government Act, to consider contractual matters.
