Brett Thorney
A graduate of Eden Prairie High School, Brett competed in the Lake Conference as a starting catcher and outfielder for their successful teams from 2006-2008. Competing in one of the toughest conferences in the state, Brett was named 2 year All-Conference and 1 year All-State. He was also a part of Eden Prairie’s MSHSL State Tournament Runner-Up finish in 2007. With Eden Prairie's American Legion team, Brett was part of two State Championship finishes in 2006 and 2007, while being named All-District. In 2007, his team also won the Central Plains Regional Championship and went on to become Runners-Up in the American Legion World Series in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
After choosing from some different options including colleges in California and in the Midwest, Brett went on scholarship to play at St. Cloud State University. After a brief stint at SCSU and considering other opportunities, Brett decided to transfer to Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa to pursue playing Division I baseball. While at Iowa Central CC, Brett learned a lot about the game of baseball, but decided to hang up the cleats due to an injury, to pursue a coaching career and to concentrate on his education. Brett is currently finishing up his Business Management Degree at the University of St. Thomas.
Ever since, Brett has been involved with many different organizations around the state to help broaden his knowledge of the game of baseball. He has coached and trained at levels from little league and all the way up to college baseball. He has gained tons of experience over the years by coaching and instructing through organizations like Players Only, Nevers-Larkin Baseball, and the Batting Cages of Minnesota. Brett currently coaches with the Minnesota Starz Club Baseball Organization, which competes on a high level at the national stage. He also coaches at Providence Academy High School as the Head JV Coach and an Assistant Coach for the Varsity team when he is not with the Minnesota Starz. Brett has shown to be a promising young coach through his work and training with these organizations.
Brett has been around the game for many years and has been part of many different successful teams, programs, and organizations. He really knows what it takes to win baseball games and increase the talent in players surrounded by him. His expertise is in catching, hitting, outfield and baserunning but has also proven to be knowledgeable in all aspects of the game.
