Job Title: Social Suppers Coordinator

Salary and hours: 15 hrs per week spread over Monday-Wednesday, £9.60/hr (£20,000 p.a. pro rata) short-term contract until end of February 2016

Location: 5 hrs on a Monday in Glasgow; 5 hrs on a Tuesday and 5 hrs on a Wednesday in Edinburgh

Accountable for: Leading the effective development and delivery of Social Suppers weekly events in Edinburgh and Glasgow and of a Women’s Evening trial in Edinburgh. Includes all related partnership work and volunteer management.

Job overview:

Reporting to the Head of Social Impact, the Social Suppers Coordinator is responsible for:

·  The safe and effective delivery of Social Suppers in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Social Suppers provides free food and support to homeless people via weekly open access events at Social Bite shops in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

·  The set up and delivery of a trial weekly Women’s Evening for homeless women to be held in one of our Edinburgh shops.

Main Duties:

Social Suppers:

·  To work in partnership with Social Bite shops and local charity partners to run regular Social Supper events for homeless people.

·  To maximise the opportunity to link homeless people to local services and opportunities.

Women’s Evening trial:

·  To work with local charity partners to trial a weekly Women’s Evening in Edinburgh for the benefit of local homeless women.


Volunteer Management:

·  To work with teams of volunteers from the general public and from homeless backgrounds to deliver Social Suppers and the Women’s Evening trial.

·  To retain and develop individual volunteers and in particular to help homeless volunteers improve their confidence and employability.

·  To develop and maintain Social Bite’s volunteer database.

Partnership working:

·  To use own initiative to develop innovative local partnerships for the benefit of local homeless charities and the local homeless community.

Health and safety

·  To follow Social Bite’s policies and procedures in terms of running safe activities and events for the homeless.

·  To work to continuously improve Social Bite’s safe practice in relation to working with the homeless.

Monitoring and evaluation

·  To collect all relevant impact data relating to Social Suppers and the Women’s Evening trial.

·  To seek regular feedback from our homeless customers and from charity partners as to the effectiveness of Social Bite’s activities to support homeless people.

Person Specification

We are looking for a proactive, highly motivated person to take on this role with the following qualities:

·  A high level of commitment to the aims of Social Bite and to improving the lives of homeless people.

·  Ability to use own initiative and to proactively overcome problems and challenges.

·  Experience in working to support and develop individuals with multiple/complex needs.

·  Experience of dealing with challenging behaviour and of establishing safe boundaries with vulnerable people.

·  A non-judgemental approach and a belief in the potential of all people.

·  Volunteer management knowledge and experience.

·  Strong relationship building skills for developing effective partnerships with a range of charities.

·  Effective written and verbal communication skills.

·  Good IT skills and the ability to accurately record information in a database.

·  A current first aid certificate would be desirable.

·  Knowledge of the homelessness sector in Edinburgh and/or Glasgow is desirable.

·  Experience of working within a commercial environment is desirable.
