Identification or Library Cards
1. Identification/library cards are issued to the following:
- Students: Valid for 1 school quarter.
- Administrators, Faculty(full time) and Staff: Valid for 1 year. Faculty (part time). Valid for 1 quarter. Entered in computer as Employee.
- Community Patrons: Community patrons 18 or older can be put in the database for a one-year term. A Family Community Patron card will be ordered when requested so that the entire family, including high school members, can use the library. The adult ordering the card is responsible for anything checked out with that card. Lost cards should be reported promptly.
- Senior Adult: Lifetime membership. No yearly fee.
- Community College Student, Other Schools: Students from other community colleges with their college ID. Valid for 1 quarter. No charge. Cards usually do not need to be made. Type the name of the college they attend in a pop up note.
- Hourly Staff: Order community patron card, then indicate [hourly staff] with a pop-up note.
- Faculty Emeritusand Staff Emeritus: Retired Shoreline Community College employees retain their borrowing privileges. (Term not available on card: must use “special”)
- Special: Use when patron does not fit any of the above classifications.
Administrator / ADMN / 1 yr
Community college student – other CC / CCO / 1 qtr / Need valid card from another college. Add name of CC in pop-up note. Card not made.
Community patron / COMM / 1 yr
Faculty, full time / FAC / 1 yr
Faculty, part time / FACP / 1 qtr
Special / SPEC / Varies
Senior adult / SR / Lifetime / Over 65
Staff / STAF / 1 yr
Student, Shoreline CC / STU / 1 qtr
2. If the patron is found in the database but has not ordered a card, have the person fill out an application form.
Note: Registration issues each student an identification number. This is usually their social security number. For nonstudents also, the person’s social security number is used as their “ID” number.
- A.If the patron does not want to use this number, a number can be created using the list of available numbers found in the “Request for ID” notebook. The number should start with the letter “L” indicating this number was created by the library.
- B. Students must go to registration to get their numbers changed.
3. If the patron is not entered into the computer:
- A.If the patron is a student, ask to see a tuition receipt for the current quarter. If the student does not have this, he/she can go to registration for a duplicate or bring his/her name up on the student kiosk.
- B.If the patron is an employee, their employment can be checked by calling the Personnel or Payroll office.
C.To add patron, check the [Adding a New Patron] help screen.
D.Patrons requiring a computer lab validation will need to provide proof of payment.
4. Duplicate Cards will be identified with the pop up note. Library patrons with these cards may be asked for picture ID.
5. Japanese Travel Students:
- Get printout from Continuing Education listing each student’s name, address and phone number.
- Issue each student a student number. Use the list of available numbers found in the “Request for ID” notebook. Each number should start with the letter “L.”
- Continuing Ed. can tell the expiration date (last day of the program) and which qtr.s a computer sticker is needed.
- Use the designation “special” when ordering library cards.
