Quality of Life Task Force Meeting Minutes

Wayne and Jan Oak’s Home

7:00 p.m. to 8:40 p.m.

Members present: Wayne Oak, Irene Sandell, Dorothy Stockamp, Karen Carlson, Matt Ludwig, and Deb Ludwig

  1. Irene Sandell and Wayne Oak presented a summary of what the various task forces were planning and gave a budget update.
  2. The community survey was completed by 76 people and will bring in about $750.00 in funding.
  3. Wayne presented the information from the Initiative Foundation, Valspar and explained the process for applying. The application is due by March 4, 2013. The committee came up with a plan to proceed through the process.
  1. Dorothy will alter the news release and email it to committee members for approval by Jan. 17. The article will be published in the January 23, 2013 Pine County Courier.
  2. Matt and Deb will create an application for those interested to complete along with a second article describing the process and logistics. These will be emailed to the committee members for approval and these will be published in the January 30, 2013 Pine County Courier.
  3. An ad with the criteria will be published in the February 6, 2013 Pine County Courier.
  4. Applications will be accepted until February 13, 2013. We will promote it through the area churches, by word of mouth, on channel 13. Applications may be picked up and dropped off at City Hall.
  5. The committee will meet on February 21, 2013 to determine the house that will benefit from the initiative. Final review of the application for Valspar will be on February 27 and will be mailed on February 28, 2013.
  1. Wayne met with the Sandstone Building Inspector, Richard Drotiny, and he said that ordinance violations are complaint driven. He also stated that Pine City’s ordinance violations are handled by the Pine City fire chief and the process works well. He would be willing to meet with us and discuss the rental codes and any other questions we may want to address.
  2. Matt reported that the cost of a 3x4 inch ad is about $50.00 in the Pine County Courier. Tim Franklin said that he would increase the size of the ad as a donation if we purchased the ad.
  3. Remember to record all donations of time and costs.

Next meeting will be Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Matt and Deb Ludwig’s home, 329 First Street, Sandstone, at 6:30 p.m.

We will go over the applications and determine the Paint-a-House project and complete the Valspar application.

Discuss setting up a meeting with the Sandstone Building Inspector.
