PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PPE)
/ Safety glasses are to be worn when preforming the hand sanding process. / / Long and loose hair should be tied back but not require for hand sanding process
/ Appropriate footwear must be worn when preforming sanding processes. Shoe must be fully enclosed. No open toed shoes allowed. / / Close fitting/protective clothing should be worn but not required for hand sanding process.
/ Rings and jewelry (long necklaces / bracelets, etc.) must not be worn. Lighters, matches and cell phones are not allowed in the shop area when the shop is operational. / / Hearing protection must be worn as per shop location protocols and when using this machine constantly for an extended period of time. Hearing protection is always recommended when performing hand sanding with powered tools.
Other PPE Considerations / Dust masks may be required depending on material being worked on and potential worker sensitivities.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Fire due to fine dust collection of combustible materials being sanded (i.e. wood) and potential sparks from any electrically powered tool in the proximity of the down draft table.
  • Discharge of objects or materials
  • Eye injury potential from discharged objects or materials from hand sanding process
  • Respiratory risks when material being welded become airborne (sensitivities)
  • Noise exposure from prolonged period of equipment use or workspace environment.

SAFE WORK PROCEDURE
DO NOT use this machine or perform this process unless a supervisor / teacher instructed you in safe procedures / operation and have given you authorization to perform associated tasks.
Always use tools and equipment for their intended purposes only.
Always take out of service and report damaged equipment to your supervisor / teacher without delay.
Pre-Job Safety:
1)It is the responsibility of area supervisors, teachers or their trained and authorized designates to ensure that the down draft table is cleaned and maintained regularly on a monthly basis.
2)Ensure all power is off to the unit and appropriately locked out as per lockout procedures.
3)Put on appropriate personal protective equipment for the cleaning job.
4)Open all access doors to the dust collection bags and motor compartment
5)Brush, sweep and or vacuum loose materials from inside the unit compartments and ensure that there is no obvious leaks coming from or damage to the unit motor of dust bags themselves.
6)Pull out dust tray. Empty in waste bin. Vacuum and replace back into unit
7)Close all unit doors.
8)Remove lockout and re-power equipment.
9)Record cleaning in appropriate record of log.
Set Up:
10)Ensure that the table is free of equipment or materials stored on to prior to starting unit.
11)Press the on button and ensure table is running and that the air draft down is sufficient for hand sanding process
12)Perform hand sanding processes manually or with powered equipment while over the table, allowing the dust to be drawn down into the unit.
Operate / Perform Process:
13)When sanding process complete, shut down unit by pressing the on/off button.
Post Job Procedure:
14)If table is not working correctly or is in need of cleaning or repair, report this to your supervisor or instructor.
15)Lockout procedure to be determined.
