Friday 16th December 2016
School ends for Christmas holidays today. Children return to school on Wednesday 4th January at 8am for Breakfast Club or 9am for school.
Welcome to…
In the New Year we will welcome two new members of staff Miss Robertson as a lunchtime supervisor and Miss Hebron as a playworker. We look forward to working with them in January.
Attendance
All pupils who have achieved 100% attendance so far this school year were put into a prize draw to win £25.00. The lucky winners were Kyle Bautista and Summer Hagan. All other pupils who achieved 100% received a certificate and a small prize. Well done everyone, keep up the hard work!
Pyjama Party
All teachers and children wore their best nightwear for school today. During the day we watched a DVD, ate snacks, had our fruit, and had lots of fun playing games to celebrate the end of term and the start of the Christmas holidays.

Swalwell Community Groups Christmas Holiday Fun
Along with a number of other groups in Swalwell we are running a Holiday Fun club on Thursday 29th December in the school holidays for children currently in Years 1 to 6. On Wednesday 28th December Swalwell Community Centre will also be holding a Holiday Fun Club. Both clubs will run from 12:00pm-2:00pm and will include crafts, games and a packed lunch.
Travelling Crib
The Travelling Crib left Holy Trinity Church on the 1st Sunday of Advent and was taken by a member of the community who played host to the nativity characters of Mary and Joseph. The crib eventually arrived in Swalwell Primary School on Wednesday 7th December so that each class could house the special guests and children could be told the Christmas Story. The crib will continue its journey into homes and businesses in the area before being returned to Holy Trinity Church for their Christmas services. The Journey symbolises Mary and Joseph’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem before the birth of Jesus. A creative way to mark the 24 days of Advent and to teach The Christmas Story to children.

Nursery Chopwell Woods Visit
Last Friday, 9th December our Nursery pupils spent a lovely morning at Chopwell Woods. They went on a treasure hunt through the woods to find letters to make a Christmas word, collected leaves to make wreaths and decorated a willow star.
Reception Hall Hill Farm Visit
On Thursday our Reception pupils visited Hall Hill Farm. Pupils got to see, feed and pet a range of animals. They went on a tractor ride driven by Santa to his Grotto where they received a gift from him. Pupils also had the opportunity to play in the soft play and sing carols in the barn with Santa’s elves. This visit helped develop pupils interests in animals which they will explore further in class next term.
Year 5 Recording Studio Visit
Year 5 had the most amazing experience on Friday 9th December when they visited a recording studio. They performed for the camera and made a musical video. This was a great opportunity for the class to learn a dance routine with the help of a professional choreographer and cut a C.D of three songs. Something that many of them said will live in their memory forever.

Year 5 Leven House Visit
On Thursday morning, our Year 5 pupils visited Leven House to sing Christmas songs to residents. Pupils sang favourites such as: Let it Snow and I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.
It is hoped that the residents enjoyed the sing song as much as pupils enjoyed the warm welcome they received. After singing, all children were given juice and cakes. Before leaving Leven House a very talented lady gave pupils homemade Christmas cards. Once again, Year 5 made Miss Bell and Mrs Anderson extremely proud. All pupils worked together as a team to please the residents and to deliver a little festive cheer. Year 5 would like to thank the dedicated staff at Leven House for inviting them along.
Nursery Christmas Party
On Tuesday, Nursery children had a brilliant time at their Christmas Party.
Good food, disco dancing, great games and a surprise visit from Santa made this party very special for our youngest pupils.

Festive Fun in Key Stage 1
Staff in Reception / Year 1 kick started the festive celebrations when they held their Christmas party on Monday 12th December. Everyone had great fun dancing, playing party games and singing along to favourite tunes. The party is funded by the school and all children received a gift from Santa. Thanks to all staff who worked hard to make this a success.

Dancing, Games and Competitions for Year 2 and 3
The end of the year is the time when all our children are excited about Christmas…The performances are over and it’s time to concentrate on class parties. Food, fun and festive games were on the agenda for Year 2 and Year 3 children. Miss Foster and Miss McKeown prepared some fantastic games, school provided plenty of food and the children made it festive and bright with their warming personalities and smiling faces.

End of Term Fun for Year 4, 5 and 6
Putting on a party is not an easy feat. There are parcels to wrap, food to prepare and games to organise but our staff are experts at this. Mrs Leaver, Miss Bell and Mrs Mc Call had some great ideas for games and their Mrs Anderson, Miss Watkins and Mrs Clarkson prepared some lovely treats and snacks. Even though the Y4, Y5 and Y6 party was the last one in school this year, there was no less enthusiasm for it. It was a lovely chance for the children to relax and have a good time.
