PROGRAMMING NEEDS FOR FTRN as of 10/24/07 – DTS

Compiled from e-mails and lists

MAIN NAVIGATION BAR

- links don't light up but need to

HEADER

- Replace the current text with smaller font -- centered vertically -- which reads:

[all in lowercase]

ftrn.org is an information hub designed to grow the fair trade movement. together, we can create a market that values the people who make the food we eat and the goods we use.

NEWS AND VIEWS SECTIONS

- Removing CATEGORY ARCHIVES and OLDER POSTS

- Making the blue panel run on every page in the news areas or other solution

- Replacing [...] with more and link to the rest of the story

- Under NEWS AND VIEWS in the blue panel - add submenu bullets for the 6 categories

-No limit on how many stories (at least 10)

- comments do not have to be approved nor moderated per Anne

- after a comment is made, the text needs to be changed to “your e-mail is never published or shared..”

- comments approval notification goes to comments@__ even though it’s not going to be used right now

- instead of having a list of the different categories and the latest story for each one, they want to just have the latest listings. And then add the list of categories in the left nav bar

- Keep all of truncated stories in a given category on the same archive page. (No <newer posts> and <older post> options.)

- For the archive page, add the left nav bar for use in navigating among the different sections. Only maintain the page without the nav bar for each of the full story postings. That left nav bar would look something like this (the idea is that the subcategories are created for the six news sections) :

·  News and Views

·  FAIR TRADE HEADLINES

·  FAIR TRADE TOWNS USA NEWS

·  ETC

·  ETC

·  ETC

·  Events/Calendar

·  Submit Event

·  Past Events

·  Visit FT Producers

- For pages with full stories (i.e. without the menu feature), we need to add two links: 1) back to the main news page, e.g. <back to newsroom>; and 2) back to the category listing, e.g. <back to Fair Trade Headlines archive>

- Add language at the top of each archive page explaining what each of the sections are (see text provided for each section below).

BUY FTRN PUBLICATIONS

When in the sub-menu pages (e.g. Conscious Consumer, Retailers Guide, etc. under the page parent Buy FTRN Publications), we would like to still see the other parent pages (e.g. Fair Trade Q&A, Recommended Reading, etc.) listed in the left navigation bar -- otherwise it is difficult to get back to previous parent pages.
