Guide for extension to the current teach-out period recorded on ISAS

  • Standards for NVR Registered Training Organisations 2011 SNR25 require that registered training organisations (RTOs) manage the transition from superseded training packages and accredited courses.
  • The standards for NVR RTOs can be supplemented by a general direction issued by the ASQA. It is a condition of registration that an ASQA RTO must comply with any such general directions.
  • Generally ISAS will be configured by the QVDC according to the standards for NVR RTOs.
  • The ASQA has released a general direction about transition and teach-out to support the standard SNR25.
  • The ASQA has allowed for an extension to the teach-out period in the event of extenuating circumstance with the following caveat:

‘If an RTO believes exceptional circumstances apply that require it to continue to deliver a superseded qualification to one or more students beyond this designated teach-out period, it must be prepared to demonstrate, if requested by ASQA, its reasons for continuing and identify the students affected and its planned delivery timeframe completion’.

  • The QVDC will extend an institute’s qualification registration if it is decided by institute staff that exceptional circumstances apply for one or more students.
  • However, this form does not replace the responsibility of TAFE Queensland staff to document and otherwise maintain records for audit by the ASQA regarding any decision to continue to deliver a superseded qualification beyond the designated teach-out period.

Preliminary information should be gathered prior to submissionfor extension to teach-outs on qualifications.

  1. Consult the ASQA website to understand the requirements relating to transition and teach-out.
  2. Access existing accreditation and/or teach-out dates in ISAS.This information can be found on the Campus panel within the Academic Program Table.Or, an ISAS report titled Accreditation Expiry Report can be run against VTAs for an overview
  3. Determine if an extension period to the teach-out is required and complete the attached form and submit to .
