CANDIDATE 1 – ROSE FRASER

I am a working mum with two children schooling at Ambler. I have trained and work as a Nursery Nurse for a number of agencies in North London. Since moving to Highbury, Ambler has been the focal centre of my involvement in the local community and I relate well with many of the parents whose children attend Ambler, as well as the teachers and staff. I play an active role in Ambler and I am currently the Assistant Class Rep for my eldest daughter’s class. As the mother two British African daughters, I have a strong appreciation of the multi-cultural challenges faced by schools, children and parents and have a good experience of managing cultural diversity and brokering positive solutions. I would make an excellent parent governor, helping Ambler to reach all parts of the diverse local community.

CANDIDATE 2 – JAMES DAVIS

I am a dad of twins in Year 1 with a toddler going into the Nursery in January. I am keen to contribute to the further development of the school and to help it keep on getting better. I work as a partner in a management consultancy and through this, am used to challenging management teams and help make difficult decisions. I am also very used to dealing with strategic and financial planning and working on a wide variety of issues. I work four days a week and would make sure I commit time and energy to the role and represent the parent group as a whole.

CANDIDATE 3 – SAIRA BANO

I have two children in the school, one in Reception and one in Year 2G. I am very keen on contributing to the development of science and technology in the school. I would be very enthusiastic about supporting Ambler to excel in any way I can to achieve better in everybody.

CANDIDATE 4 – SHAM AHMED

I want to give back to my local community and help prepare the children of Ambler to make their futures the best it can be. Though I am not a children’s education professional, I am an experienced managing consultant with over 30 years project/program manager experience. I can bring all of this to the benefit of the people who need it most; the children, as well as teachers and parents.

CANDIDATE 5 – DONNA VEAL

I have experienced a number of schools in Islington and think Ambler is pretty special. My son attends here – but not for long; however my daughter will be starting in Year 1 shortly. I would like to learn about how the school is run and help ensure it continues that way. I believe that at primary age, it is such an important stage in self-development for children. I love Ambler’s values and believe that they fit very neatly within my own morals/values. I believe being a parent and have this parent prospective will be helpful.

CANDIDATE 6 – JEFFREY SHIU

I wish to become a parent governor to contribute to the school and community with my time and skills as well as take an active role in shaping the education and development of our children. I have spent the past five years at home with my two sons growing up (Oscar at Ambler; Theodore: 3 years old). Before that, I have run a global commodities trading business for several large banks. I have good skills in finance, quantitive anaylsis and all round problem solving. I hold a Master of Applied Finance and Bachelor of Science (Honours 1: Pure Mathematics and Computer Science) and was educated in Australia.

CANDIDATE 7 – SAHR SALIM

My name is Sahra, I have two children in the school and they have settled in well. This brings me to why I want to become a governor, to make a difference and contribute to the school, which has welcomed my family. This will give me an opportunity to give back to the school, help the school to achieve its aims and invest in the learning and development of the children. I know it’s going to be a challenge because it’s an important role, getting grips with policies, procedures and problems. I am willing to embrace it and looking forward to work with new people…I do love a challenge.
