WHAT: Weekend camping, biking, swimming, hiking, and whitewater rafting

WHERE: Ohiopyle Pennsylvania, OhiopyleState Park campground called "KENTUCK CAMPGROUND". Try to get your campsite on Elm Rd. There are 9 campsites that hold a maximum of 5 people or 2 tents PER campsite. The Elm Rd. campsite numbers are 65 through 73. If you cannot get one of these 9 sites, there are others within the KENTUCK campground so no worries.

COSTS: Each campsite costs about $30 per site per night. So as an example, if 4 people stayed at a campsite for 2 nights the total cost would be $60 divided by 4 people so $15 each person for both nights.

OTHER COSTS:

1. FIREWOOD. You will need to by firewood since it is not allowed to bring outside firewood into this park. The cost is small and there is a place to buy firewood right next to the campground.

2. WHITEWATER RAFTING. The cost includes raft ( or ducky which is an inflatable kayak ), paddle, life jacket, and lunch provided by the guides. If you want a guide in your raft, this will cost extra. Details on costs and how to sign up are forthcoming.

WHEN. Most will want to reserve their campsite for the 2 nights of Friday August 19th and Saturday August 20th. But you can reserve it for as many nights as you want so long as it is available. The trip leaders are reserving for thursday night the 18th and Friday and Saturday nights so we have 3 full days to enjoy.

WHY. It is a great weekend getaway, where friendships are made and the cost makes it a no-brainer.

SOME OF THE HOWS...

HOW TO GET THERE? Plan on a 3 to 4 hour drive. GoogleMapOhiopyleState Park and Kentuck Campground map. Print out these maps because cell phone service and GPS are spotty and may not work. THE LOCATION IS TRICKY TO GET TO. Think about car pooling ( less gas and less cost ).

Book your campsite as soon as possible and think about who you might share the campsite with. CALL 888 727 2757 to reserve and pay.

FYI-we will plan a pre-trip party - Q & A and post to the meetups.

Think about who you might like to raft with. THe rafts are typically 6 person rafts.

Decide if you want to be in a 1-person ducky or a 6-person raft. Decide if you want to pay extra for a guide in your raft ( advisable if you do not whitewater raft much ).

FOOD. If we figure out some group meals; we will post these. Otherwise, bring what you need for the weekend ( NOTE. you can also go into town to eat ).

WATER. Bring extra gallons for doing dishes.

ALCOHOL. NOT allowed in the state park.

SHOWERS. There are nice shower houses with sinks and regular toilets.

SHORT PACKING LIST. Tent, air mattress, sleeping bag or blankets, sneakers, sandals or water shoes for rafting ( flip flops are usually lost if you fall in ).

BIKING. They have a beautiful trail with waterfalls and we end up at a B & B for lunch. Its a great ride so bring your bike.

HIKING. Fantastic trails and more breathtaking waterfalls.

Join us for a fun-filled weekend in Ohiopyle Pennsylvania. Event hosts will arrive Thursday night and leave late Sunday afternoon; however, feel free to book your campsite for just the weekend.

Campsites hold a maximum of 5 people/2 tents. They include a picnic table and fire ring. The cost is about $30 per night per campsite. So if you had 5 people at your site the cost would be $6 per person per night ( $30 divided by 5 people ). There are 9 sites all right next to each other on Elm Rd. ( SITE NUMBERS 65 through 73 ). If you do NOT get one of these sites, there are others in the KENTUCK Campground so no worries. The number to call is 888-727-2757 to reserve and pay for your campsite.

Here are some more details...

This meetup is posted on WHYNOT Adventurers and YOLO and will be posted on other meetup groups if we receive OK from group leaders.

We did this trip twice last summer and it was an absolute blast ( or sick as the 20 somethings call it LOL !! )

All future questions and comments, and answers to same, should be posted on WHYNOT Adventurers group site in the trip comment section; thus, making it easier for everyone to reply and read in one place.

Ohiopyle Pennsylvania is a tiny town about 3 to 4 miles from northeast Ohio. There are beautiful mountains and waterfalls and a wild river running through it ( river is called the Youghaheny or YUG for short ). There is more to do than you can do in a weekend!!

We will put a full document with several important details in the MORE section of the meetup group sites so check it out.
