Dear New Parents and Students of UBMA,
I wanted to be the first to welcome you to Upper Bucks Martial Arts! It is always an exciting time for the program when new students and families join us on our journey of martial arts development and learning. I believe that the development of physical fitness, respect for self and others, psychological hardiness, and new friendships are incredibly important parts of building the foundation for success in life. I look forward to seeing your child (and my new student!) grow and develop into a great karate student and outstanding member of our community.
As with any journey, our new student needs some things to get started.
1. A karate gi – each student must purchase a gi. A gi may be purchased from my wife, Bernadette, during and after class. We bring gis with us for sizing so there is no guess work. The student cannot participate in class without their uniform.
2. Attendance – I believe that coming to class is essential to the student’s development. This sounds like common sense, and it is. Consistency in attendance helps in the retention of information and muscle memory.
3. Your support! – For me to say the road is smooth and easy to traverse would be irresponsible of me. There are many challenges in their future. Some are physical, and some are mental. Your child will need your support and encouragement to forge through these obstacles. It is a great chance to help your child and spend some meaningful time together. My daughters are both enrolled in the program, and we have shared some difficult times working through some difficult techniques and forms. The great part is that it strengthens our relationship, and I wouldn’t trade anything in the world for that.
I understand this process may be foreign to you, so we have resources to aid you in any issues you may have. We have a manual that provides a great deal of information including belt requirements, and we also have a web site (ubma.webs.com). I can be reached via email or by phone. Phone: 267-446-1673

Looking forward to getting to know you better
