CAP Griffin Squadron Expanding to Pike County:

Ribbon Cutting Celebration Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10:00am

The Civil Air Patrol Griffin Composite Squadron is expanding its cadet leadership facilities to a "new" building in Pike County at:

Peach State Aerodrome( )
349 Jonathan's Roost Road
Williamson, GA 30292

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday, October 25th at 10:00am EST. The event is open to CAP alumnae, CAP friends, and the interested public.

This expansion is possible because of the generosity of Mr. Ron Alexander, owner/manager of Candler Field Airport and museum in Williamson, GA. A former cadet himself and great supporter of this squadron, he has donated one of his buildings for use by the Civil Air Patrol Griffin Squadron until such time as Spalding County completes a new airport. This will allow the squadron to concentrate on its leadership programs for its cadets. This move will also serve CAP's aerospace mission by facilitating cadet participation with Ron's flight club program in which students can learn airplane mechanic skills while earning flight time and class lessons towards a pilot's license. Mr. Alexander also has a separate business located at the Griffin-Spalding Airport.
The Griffin Squadron, , will keep its Griffin name and the former cadet building at the Griffin-Spalding Airport. That building will be reconverted into an airplane hanger to house a CAP Cessna Skyhawk, which the squadron plans to formally request from CAP national. This will involve installing hanger doors on the front of the building and some minimal earth moving/landscaping to allow taxiing access to the runway. This will be a much, much less costly project than the renovation of the building for cadet use. It should also bring a CAP plane to the region, opening up greater opportunities for training, flight time, and actual rescue missions.
