The Chairperson made it quite clear that Parent Council Meetings is not the forum to discuss issues that individual parents might have.

  1. Community Chest Fund – Bikes

An application has been made for £500 to this fund for accessories for bikes.

Accounts details passed to Mrs Lesley Fraser. These will be discussed at the start of every meeting.

  1. Notice Board – (Action to be taken)

Notice board to be put up at the front of the school.

  1. Fund Raising

5 parents and 2 members of staff met with Mr Hamilton to discuss ways of raising funds. This will give staff and parents opportunity to and also raise funds for the school.

It has been decided that we will hold a Race Night in Springburn Bowling Club(6.30 – 9.00 p.m.). An application will be made by Mr Gordon Wilson to the bowling club. Another meeting will be held on 26th November at 4.30 p.m. to discuss details.

  1. Curriculum for Excellence

A guide for parents and carers was issued to all parents. There was a particular focus on the skills that parents can bring to support Curriculum for Excellence. There is an emphasis on skills for life, work and learning.

  1. Intermediate 2 Hospitality Culinary Excellence.

Chairperson, Mr Romeo has been invited to this event at the Millennium Hotel on Tuesday, 17th November at 5.00 p.m.

  1. Review of Supports in the Learning Community

S.B.M.’s Support Senior Management Team in a variety of ways.

The role of S.B.M. was explained and Mrs Ervine and

Mrs McMaster outlined the vital role Mr McWhinnie played in the leadership of the school.

The role in Springburn is not falling as it is in other schools. The Parent Council will respond to the consultation.

  1. Bullying

Some parents have complained about bullying not being dealt with. Mrs McMaster urged any parent to contact Mrs Ervine or any of the D.H.T.s if they are not satisfied with a situation.

  1. Photographs

Mrs Fraser has brought in a sample of photographs from a photographer. D McMaster to discuss with Mrs Morrison, D.H.T.SpringburnAcademy.

  1. Moderator of Church of Scotland

A congratulations card will be sent from the Springburn Academy Parents’ Council to John Christie, who was a former teacher in the school. He has been appointed to the above post. A number of tickets for the opening ceremony will be applied for. Eddie Romeo will deal with this.

  1. GlasgowCity Council Parent Forum

Mr Porter outlined the main points from the most recent meeting.

Maureen McKenna urged Parent Council members to raise any issues at meeting with her.

  1. Child Protection

Kathryn Farrow has stated that if we are running an event and parents are involved we should contact the council to check if disclosure is required.

  1. Date of Next Meeting

Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 19th January 2010.

  1. Prelims/S4 Reports

Parents asked for confirmation of when reports will be issued. There was some discussion how parents could best support their children in the forthcoming parents’ evening. It was agreed that parents could contact Principal Teachers. Mrs McMaster will speak to Ms McNeill.
