Activity 4:Perform an industry scan

An industry scan is simply a way of keeping track of changes in your particular industry.

Reading relevant industry journals will keep you informed of changes that may not have impacted on your organisation yet, but will in the future. Having up to date information can help you make better decisions about your future.

Complete the following.

Locate some relevant industry and professional journals or websites (you could try IT Skills Hub or The Australian Information Industry Association

Read some news about emerging trends and think about how these will impact on the skills you’ll need in the future.

Membership of relevant professional associations will give you the opportunity to keep up to date with your professional reading and develop and maintain valuable networks. These may also be a source of information about changes that will influence the direction of your organisation.
