The Practice of Professional Supervision

When: 5th6th November, 2013 with follow up training 10th11th December, 2013.

Where:Bru Chaoimhin. Cork Street. Dublin 8.

This is a HSE funded workshop organised by AOTI and delivered by Eileen O’Neill. The workshop is four days in total. Two days, with two days follow up a month later. This workshop will be held in Dublin.

What is the aim of the training?

For OTs to develop an understanding of the purpose and functions of professional supervision and to strengthen their supervision skills.

Proposed Content

The workshop will include a mix of teaching, discussion, interactive exercises and skills practice. Content includes;

  • Background and rationale for professional supervision
  • What professional supervision is/is not
  • The importance of professional supervision
  • Challenges of providing or engaging in supervision
  • Practical experiences of receiving and providing supervision
  • Developing skills necessary for effective supervision
  • Analysing current challenges in relation to supervision
  • Developing strategies to address common challenges in supervision
  • Frameworks and policies for professional supervision
  • Developing action plans for how to implement new learning with practice

Who should attend?

Senior OTs and OT managers who provide direct clinical supervision to others in their professional practice. Members and non members of AOTI can apply to attend.

Facilitator Details

The workshop facilitator is Eileen O’Neill. Eileen supported the development of the AOTI document ‘Professional Supervision in Occupational Therapy’. Eileen has researched, published and presented at conferences on the subject of Professional Supervision and has delivered a range of training programmes to Occupational Therapists and other health professionals throughout Ireland.

Places are limited. Late or incomplete applications may not be accepted. Successful applicants will be notified that they have a place at the workshop. A non refundable booking fee of €20 must then be forwarded to the AOTI office to secure your place at the workshop.
