ALIVE (Monday-Thursday) from 3:05 p.m. – 5:35 p.m. ALIVE at Dunbar STEAM is a year-long after school program that will be held November 7, 2016 – June 6, 2017, three days a week (Monday-Wednesday) from 3:05 p.m. – 5:35 p.m. Both ALIVE programs are FREE for all Paul Laurence Dunbar High School students.
Paul Laurence Dunbar High School shares MAEC’s belief that a child’s education must encompass the whole child, addressing both the academic and non-academic barriers to achievement. Understanding the importance of after school program initiative and the impact on academic success and personal growth, ALIVE at Dunbar will focus on academic supports in English and Mathematics. ALIVE at Dunbar STEAM will focus on academic support in Science. Both ALIVE programs promote College & Career Readiness, Youth Leadership and Service Learning. All ALIVE program participants will earn Service Learning hours that count towards their high school graduation requirements.
Each week, ALIVE will offer different enrichment activities that will keep the ALIVE participants engaged and having fun. ALIVE participants will select from a series of activities that introduce students to different career paths such as: Business/Entrepreneurship, Culinary Arts, Information Technology, Nursing, Robotics, STEM, Visual Arts and Vocal Music.
Through ALIVE STEAM, the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School-MAEC partnership strives to promote on-time high school graduation and college acceptance; but also, produce a cadre of liberated, productive leaders. In order to have a successful 21st CCLC after school program and support our promising students, ALIVE at Dunbar has recruited high quality educators and partnered with Morgan State University’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (SEMAA) and Kiamsha/Pen or Pencil.
FREE bus transportation will be provided to all ALIVE students. A FREE after-school meal and snack will also be provided. SEE ALIVE at Dunbar program flyer attached.
