Dear Fourth Grade Parents and Guardians,
I am excited to inform you that your child is involved in the ninth year of our exploratory instrumental music program. This year the students will explore three instruments from the woodwind, brass, and string families - the clarinet, trumpet, and violin respectively. Please see the schedule below as to when your child will be studying each instrument.
September / January / AprilClarinet / Trumpet / Violin
The students will meet for instrumental music once per week. In approximately 2-4 weeks, the students will be able to take their instrument home to practice. At that point, they should have sufficient understanding of how to care for and begin playing their instrument. The instrument must be returned to the school and checked in the day instrumental music class meets unless otherwise decided by the teacher and/or student. Before the instrument leaves the instrumental room it must be checked out to ensure correct inventory.
All Niantic Center School 4th graders need to bring their instrument to school on Mondays.
Please sign the form on attached this paper and return it to Mr. Stellner so that your child can take their instrument home. This form allows your child to take home each of the three instruments during the year. If you have any questions about the program, please email me at .
By signing the form the parent/guardian is taking full financial responsibility for the instruments if they are lost, stolen, or damaged. If damages occur to the instrument, it must be reported immediately to Mr. Stellner so that the instrument can be properly inspected and (if need be) repaired by an authorized technician
**Please note that the cost of the instruments is substantial (e.g. Trumpets cost approximately $1,200 each), so be sure to speak with your children about respecting the instrument at home.
In the instrument case you might find a piece of paper with the brand, model, serial number and dollar amount of the instrument. This is valuable information that we will keep on record. When the instrument goes home it is for 4th grade student use only. We ask that the instrument be kept in a safe place, in its case, and away from heat or cold (which could result in damage).
I look forward to another exciting year of introducing these instruments to your students, and hope that you enjoy your students’ joy in learning a new instrument.
