Water Cycle Flow Chart Name ______Period # _____

Learning Target: I can describe the cycling of water through Earth’s systems driven by the sun’s energy and gravity.

Directions:

  1. On a piece of blank white paper, you will be drawing a flow chart that gives one possible pathway that a water molecule can take within the water cycle. See the examples of how to draw a pathway below:

  1. Your pathway must include at least 5 parts of the water cycle. Before you start drawing your pathway, identify the 5 parts you want to include. Think about how one part flows into the next.
  2. At each change/transition, label whether the sun’s energy or gravity is causing the transition.
  3. When you are finished, staple your pages together in the following order

I can describe a possible pathway of the water cycle. / The pathway I drew includes more than 5 parts and correctly shows what each part means. The order in which I drew the pathway is accurate. / The pathway I drew includes5 parts and correctly shows what each part means. The order in which I drew the pathway is accurate. / The pathway I drew includes 5 parts, but I do not correctly show what all 5 parts mean OR the order I drew for the pathway is not accurate. / The pathway I drew includes 5 parts, but I do not correctly show what all 5 parts mean AND the order I drew for the pathway is not accurate.
I can identify the role of the sun’s energy and gravity in the water cycle. / I correctly identified at each transition whether the sun’s energy or gravity was causing the change. (Must have more than 5 parts to the cycle) / I correctly identified at each transition whether the sun’s energy or gravity was causing the change. / I attempted to identify at each transition whether the sun’s energy or gravity was causing the change, but I did not have ALL correct. / I attempted to identify at each transition whether the sun’s energy or gravity was causing the change, but I did not have ANY correct.
