Steps to become officially a “Stroke and Turn” Official:

-Yes, there is a test, its open book and you do it at home. Passing is not hard but it does take an hour or two!

-You train for at least four sessions with an experienced official on deck prior to being given your papers!

-The official uniform will be required for the “Novice Training.” Note the meet referee is responsible for the “look” of the meet and sometimes requires more “spit and polish” than others. For example many referees require shirts tucked into the pants or skirt. Pants / skirts should be dark (navy) blue and the shirts need to be white polo with no large branding other than swim meet or club logos. Shoes should be white tennis type with minimum to no color accents and clean -- usually reserved only for Swim Meets.

Cost:

Renewals:

-Every two years attend a class for the same or higher certification. No retake of the test is required – this keeps you up with the latest rule changes!

-Keep a log of the meet and sessions you worked and what position you did. A minimum number of meets must be shown to have been worked over the past year. Handwritten is fine – no meet official signature is required on it.
