(If we get off schedule because of the busses, we will just push things back by that many minutes. We just need to be back to school no later than 12:30).

9:30 Students to the Bathroom

9:35 Walk to the Bus

9:45 Catch the 517 bus @700 W and N Temple

*This is an estimate at when the bus will come. If the 522 comes first we

can catch that. If we are waiting for longer than 10 min we can walk to the

next stop and so on.

10:00 Arrival

*I will go over safety and expectations with the whole group and divide them

up into their four groups

10:10 Water Testing

Go to designated water testing spot (see map on next page) and start testing

the water for all of the features. You can use both the kit and the probes,

just be sure to have the students mark their data sheets whether you used

a kit or a probe.

We are measuring: Water Temp, Dissolved Oxygen, pH, Total Dissolved Solids, and

Turbidity.

When students have their data filled out they can work on extra activities such as:

*Leaf Rubbing – In science notebook put a leaf under on page and rub pencil over top of page to get leaf shape

*Sketching – Students can sketch an animal or plant they see near the river

*Plant and animal ID – Students can use field guides to try to identify plants and animals they see

*Bird watching – Students can use binoculars to observe birds

*Observe Weather – Use kestrels and write weather observation on data sheet, or sketch clouds

11:00 Share Data (Listen for 2 whistles or a phone call)

All meet together and share out about data, water quality, or anything else we found

11:15 Eat Lunch

11:40 Walk to bus stop

11:45 Catch 517 or 522 back to 800 W and N Temple

Salt Lake City, UT 84116.

From North Temple: Turn north on Redwood Road. Building is approximately one-half mile north on the right-hand (east) side of the road.
