Grammar Test - Narrative
1Arnie was born on the second Friday of the month, and he1 has been second at
2 everything he2 has done ever since. He3 was the second one of them4 to get the measles, 3 and he5 was the second one to fall off a motorcycle. In fact, when something happens to 4 anybody, Arnie knows it6 just seems to follow that just as suddenly it7 happens to him8 second.
5This created a problem for Arnie. Jeff, Arnie’s best friend, truthfully his9 only good 6 friend, wanted to become a skydiver. This gave Arnie cause to become really scared for 7 his10 life. If Jeff failed in his11 attempt to skydive, Arnie was certain whatever happened 8 to Jeff would happen to him12 next.
9Patiently, Arnie waited on the ground while his13 friends soared into the air in the plane to take a leap into history. Staring into the air, he14 watched. The first chute opened. 11 Then a second and another until every one of their15 chutes were open. A sigh of relief 12 passed across his16 lips. They17 were on their18 way to the ground. The curse of being second would not find Arnie today. This was going to be a great day for all of them19.
14Jeff hit the ground first. He20 hit and rolled just like you21 are suppose to do. When 15 he22 stood up he23 was right in the path of the recovery truck. It24 swerved to miss him25, 16 but barely clipped him26 anyway. Arnie jumped up and ran towards Jeff when he27 realized what was about to take place. It 28barely hit Jeff, but old second wound up in the 18 hospital. Still, all in all this, Arnie says,can be seen as a positive thing. After all, he29is 19 the first one of them30 to wear a body cast.
