1 GENERAL

This document represents Cloverdale Paint Inc. recommended surface preparation and coating system information and should not be used as a full coating specification document. In order to have a project-ready specification, Cloverdale Paint must be contacted with Specifier's draft specification prior to using a paint specification that includes Cloverdale Paint products. 1.4   SUBMITTALS

1.4.1   Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

1.4.2   Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

1.4.2.1   Preparation instructions and recommendations.

1.4.2.2   Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

1.4.2.3   Installation methods.

1.4.3   Finish Schedule: Submit finish schedule including color information, gloss and model number for each type and color of finish specified.

1.4.4   Verification Samples: For each finish product specified, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square, representing actual product, color, and patterns.

1.4.5   Custom Colors: Provide a list of color formula and location for each finish specified.

1.5   QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.5.1   Installer Qualifications: All products listed in this section are to be installed by a single installer with a minimum of five years demonstrated experience in installing finishes and coatings of the same type and scope as specified.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Include a mock-up if the project size and/or quality warrant taking such a precaution. The following is one example of how a mock-up on a large project might be specified. When deciding on the extent of the mock-up, consider all the major different types of work on the project.

1.5.2   Mock-Up: Provide a mock-up for evaluation of surface preparation techniques and application workmanship.

1.5.2.1   Finish areas designated by Architect.

1.5.2.2   Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship, color, and sheen are approved by Architect.

1.5.2.3   Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

1.6   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

1.6.1   Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

1.6.2   Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.

1.6.3   Take special safety precautions against hazards from toxic and flammable materials. Place paint and solvent contaminated cloths and materials, subject to spontaneous combustion, in containers and remove from job site each day. Keep open flame, electrical and static spark, and other ignition sources from flammable vapors and materials at all times.

1.7   PROJECT CONDITIONS

1.7.1   Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.7.2   Post "WET PAINT" signs during application and curing of all coatings that may be accessed by other trades or the public.

1.7.3   Post "NO SMOKING" signs during application and curing of solvent-based materials.

1.8   COORDINATION

1.8.1   Coordinate Work with other operations and installation of finish materials to avoid damage to installed materials.

1.8.2   Do not apply coating materials until moisture or dust-producing work or other appearance or performance impairing construction activities have been completed.

1.9   WARRANTY

1.9.1   At project closeout, provide to Owner's Representative an executed copy of the manufacturer's standard limited warranty against manufacturing defect, outlining its terms, conditions, and exclusions from coverage.

1.10   EXTRA MATERIALS

1.10.1   At project closeout, provide to the Owner's representative, two gallons (7.56L / 2.0 US Gallons) of each color and finish coating material in sealed one gallon (3.875 L / 1.0 US Gallon) containers, clearly marked with color and finish identification.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Use this article to define the scope of painting if not fully defined in a Finish Schedule or on the drawings. This article must be carefully edited to reflect the surfaces actually found on the project. If the project involves repainting some but not all existing painted surfaces, be sure to indicate the extent of the repainting. The descriptions of each system can also be used to further refine the definition of what is to be painted, stained, or clear finished.

2.3   PAINT MATERlALS - GENERAL

2.3.1   Paints and Coatings.

2.3.1.1   Unless otherwise indicated, provide factory-mixed coatings. When required, mix coatings to correct consistency in accordance with manufacturer's instructions before application. Do not reduce, thin, or dilute coatings or add materials to coatings unless such procedure is specifically described in manufacturer's product instructions.

2.3.1.2   For opaque finishes, tint each coat including primer coat and intermediate coats, one-half shade lighter than succeeding coat, with final finish coat as base color. Or follow manufactures product instructions for optimal color conformance.

2.3.2   Primers: Where the manufacturer offers options on primers for a particular substrate, use primer categorized as "best" by the manufacturer.

2.3.3   Coating Application Accessories: Provide all primers, sealers, cleaning agents, cleaning cloths, sanding materials, and clean-up materials required, per manufacturer's specifications.

2.3.4   Color: Refer to Finish Schedule for paint colors, and as selected.
