Certified Building Envelope Technician (CBET)

The Certified Building Envelope Technician (CBET) programobtained National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation on March 22, 2016. The NCCA is the certification arm of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence, has granted accreditation to the CBET program for a 5-year period, through March 31, 2021. NCCA accreditation of the CBET program is a monumental milestone for the UBC and CITF, as it is the first certification program of its kind in the United States and Canada.

There are two forms of the Certified Building Envelope Technician (CBET) written exam: 030101 and 030201.

Only form 030101 has been administered to candidates. The CBET 030101 examination is divided into four major knowledge dimensions. The exam contains a total of 120 items (100 scored, and 20 non-scored/ experimental). Candidates are allotted 3 hours to complete the exam. Table 1 outlines the number of items in each dimension.

To date, form 030101 it has been administered to a total of 150 candidates, and 130 candidates have passed and received their CBET designation(87% pass rate). Table 2 presents the pass and fail rates forform 030101, and the test-level statistics are summarized in Table 3.

Certified Building Envelope Specialist– Air & Moisture Barrier (CBES – A & M)

There are two forms of the Certified Building Envelope Specialist – Air & Moisture Barrier (CBES – A&M) written exam: 040101 and 040201. Only form 040101 has been administered to candidates. The CBES – A & M examination form 040101 is divided into three major knowledge dimensions. The exam contains a total of 84 items (70 scored,14 non-scored/experimental). Candidates are allotted 2.5 hours to complete the exam. Table 4 outlines the number of items in each dimension, including the number of scored and non-scored items.

To date, the CBES – A & M examination form 040101 has been administered to 30 candidates, and 25 candidates have passed and received their CBES – A & M designation(83% pass rate). Table 5 presents the pass and fail rates for form 040101, and the test-level statistics are summarized in Table 6.

Certified Building Envelope Specialist – Thermal Barrier (CBES – Thermal Barrier)

There are two forms of the Certified Building Envelope Specialist – Thermal Barrier (CBES – Thermal) written exam: 050101 and 050201. Only Form 050101 has been administered to candidates. The CBES – Thermal Barrier 050101 examination is divided into two major knowledge dimensions. The exam contains a total of 60 items (50 scored, 10non-scored/experimental). Candidates are allotted 2 hours to complete the exam. Table 7 outlines the number of items in each dimension, including the number of scored and non-scored items.

Certified Building Envelope Specialist – Spray Foam Barrier (CBES – SF)

There are two forms of the Certified Building Envelope Specialist – Spray Foam Barrier (CBES – SF) written examination: 060101 and 060201. Only form 060101 has been administered to candidates. The CBES – SFexamination is divided into three major knowledge dimensions. The test contains a total of 48 items (40 scored, 8non-scored/experimental). Candidates are allotted 1 hour to complete the examination. Table 10 outlines the number of items in each dimension, including the number of scored and non-scored items.
