In the 1970s The Place became the first home for contemporary dance in the UK with London Contemporary Dance Theatre while London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS) welcomed Martha Graham and Jane Dudley into the faculty.

In the 1980s The Place supported the origins of some of the UK’s leading independent dance companies launching Resolution, the first UK season for emerging artists and designing and developing the first University validated dance degree in Europe.

In the 1990s The Place artist development programmes were nurtured and Richard Alston Dance Company became the resident company

In the 2000s The Place Prize gave prominence to new choreography while LCDS co-founded the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama as a recognised Higher Education Institution of eight world-leading schools.

As The Place moves to celebrate its 50th anniversary we will work in partnership with major theatres and producers to create more accessible mid-scale dance shows, more dance for outdoors, especially festivals and more dance for families and village halls ensuring that The Place will reach every corner of England.

Through LCDS we will pioneer new partnerships and programmes to ensure that we continue to offer the highest quality publically funded dance training in the UK while developing dance as an art form.

We will continue our unwavering commitment to be the leading home for new dance, working with independent artists and a wide range of organisations to ensure our training programmes and productions are as bold and diverse as they are popular. In doing so we will continue to shape the landscape for new dance in England.

Following a period of transition, we need to improve our infrastructure, develop systems and processes to enable greater artistic, financial and educational resilience and strengthen our creative, positive well-being culture.

We are seeking to appoint a Communications Support Assistant toprovide day-to-day support in the running of the department and to help reach more audiences than ever before, support develop our brand and tell our story.This is a busy role and you will need a flexible attitude and be able to work under your own initiative.This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic graduate to join a highly creative and motivated team.

4 days a week, 6 month contract

Job Description

The Role

The Communications Department at The Place requires part time admin support in a number of key areas, for an initial fixed term of six months. This role will work closely the Marketing and Press Officer and Marketing Manager to provide day-to-day support in the running of the Communications department. It is a busy role and you will need a flexible attitude and be able to work under your own initiative.

Reporting to:Marketing Manager

Responsibilities

  • Putting up events listings
  • Desk research for campaigns
  • Supporting social media campaigns

Overseeing the visual brand presence within the building and coordinating in-house print production:

  • Collating information from visiting companies and production of theatre programme notes
  • Managing print around the building and keeping stock
  • Archiving print
  • Coordinating corporate print orders (including the freesheet paper, business cards and signage)
  • Updating in-house template of posters and flyers with in-house

Supporting the Marketing and Press Officer and Marketing Manager to implement digital marketing strategies including:

  • Creating e-flyers
  • Updating the website with new content
  • Putting events on sale online
  • Developing engaging online content for social media including videos, photos, blog posts, youtube playlists, image collections etc.
  • Assisting the Marketing and Press officer in uploading listings online
  • Conducting desk research to foster new marketing opportunities for campaigns
  • Measuring and reporting performance of digital campaigns via social media insights, competitors comparison and analytics

  • Taking minutes when required
  • Copywriting and proof reading
  • Perform data analysis for campaigns
  • Conduct post-event surveys
  • Any other communications department support as needed

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Excellent planning and organisational skills / Knowledge of and enthusiasm for contemporary dance
A confident user of computers and applications including MS Office / Experience with website content management systems and DTP/imaging software e.g. InDesign, Photoshop.
Enthusiasm for learning about communications and marketing / Familiarity with Dotmailer or some form of bulk email software
Experience of using a range of social media applications / An understanding of the role of marketing and communications
Good interpersonal skills / Experience of creating content for social media
Ability to work as part of a team / Willingness to use own initiative
Excellent communicator, both person-to-person and in writing
Keen attention to detail
Organised and motivated, able to work to deadlines

Salary, hours of work and benefits

Salary

The salary for this role will be 0.8 of £20,091 = £16,072.

Salaries are reviewed in April each year when any cost of living increases are made. No salary changes are made until the post holder has completed a six month probationary period.

Contract

This is 6 month fixed term contract, with the possibility this may be extended. The contract will start in April 2018 and run until October 2018.

The Place operates a standard six month probationary period during which the notice period will be two weeks. Once this period is successfully completed the postholder will be confirmed in post and the notice period will be four weeks.

Hours

This is a part time, fixed term position, based on a 16 hour week. Your working hours will be agreed with your line manager. Occasional evening and/or weekend work will be required.

Benefits

All employees will be automatically enrolled in our pension scheme after three months service. This has a variety of contribution levels for both employee and employer. Other benefits include interest-free season ticket loan (after three months), theatre ticket allowance, free access (subject to availability) to The Place evening classes and subsidised café and bar prices. We operate a salary sacrifice scheme for the purchase of bicycles and childcare vouchers. We run a weekly subsidised staff yoga class and a staff choir.

Holiday

20 days per year with 4 days at the discretion of the Director.
