EMT Class Coordinator Application

Illini Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) is searching for outstanding and reliable candidates to fill the EMT Class Coordinator Position for the spring semester of 2018. The EMT Class Coordinator is in charge of overseeing many of the the logistics of the IEMS EMT course that graduates 16-24 EMTs each semester. We will consider all applicants currently licensed as EMTs, but the ideal candidate will have:
· Had their EMT License for >1 year
· Been volunteering at IEMS EMT Practicals for >1 year
The selected EMT class coordinator will be a full member of the Spring 2018 IEMS officer corps and will be required to staff two office hours per week, as well as attend IEMS officer corps meetings every three weeks.

If chosen, you will receive further information regarding the location, time, and details of a meeting with the Director of Education, Spring 2018 EMT Lead Instructors, and EMT Practical Coordinator. Training and duties for the Class Coordinators will begin immediately after selection, and continue throughout the remainder of the Spring 2018 semester.

Responsibilities
All members of the EMS Education Department shall:
· Ensure the EMT students learn the necessary material and promote retention of
the EMT students within IEMS through creating an exciting environment beyond
the course.
· Encourage an inclusive learning environment and do the best within her/his ability to accommodate for individual needs relating to cultural differences and ability. Understand that discrimination against age, gender, sexual orientation, race, national origin, religion, disability, etc. by Officers, practical volunteers, or students will not be tolerated.
· Maintain student confidentiality regarding matters that include but are not limited to course grades, practical performance, and health and background check information. Student matters may be discussed as necessary with the IEMS Advisor, IEMS Executive Board, and EMT Coordinators. Practical performance may be discussed with the respective practical evaluators, evaluating assistants, and actors.
· Meet at the start of the semester to organize the Education Equipment Closet.
· Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Education Equipment Closet, disposing of items as needed and identifying purchasing needs.
The EMT Class Coordinator shall:
· Maintain current NREMT certification at a level of EMT-Basic or above for the entirety of the course duration; exceptions may be approved by the IEMS Executive Board.
· Work with the EMS Instructor to identify students at risk of failing or being dropped from the course.
· Manage student paperwork related to applications, BLS Certifications, and scheduling of clinical and/or ride time. Identify students whose BLS Certification will expire during the class.
· Assist with reading EMT Student applications
· Work with the President to obtain necessary room reservations.
· Provide exam conflict forms to students as needed.
· Ensure that each EMT student is continually meeting requirements for IEMS membership.
· Work with the EMS instructor to develop, administer, and grade student quizzes and homework assignments.
· Attend at least 75% of non-practical class hours and assist with any equipment
demonstrations, lectures, etc. (Please note- lectures are tentatively scheduled from 7-10 PM on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday in Spring 2018).
· Track student attendance and grades, and notify the EMS Instructor when students are at risk of falling below academic or attendance expectations.
· Provide students with timely access to class grades or other indicators of progress.
