Minutes of Board of Directors’ Meeting

CALL TO ORDER
President Sandy Kravetz called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
SPECIAL GUESTS – Girls Golf, Boys Golf, Cross Country
Representatives from boys golf, girls golf, cross country and Charity Wear all came to the meeting and shared what their groups are doing. Boys golf has 13 players and is having a golf tournament fundraiser. Girls golf has 10 players and there are many opportunities for girls golf college scholarships. Cross Country has about 60 participants that practice at 5:10am. Charity Wear is selling t-shirt for the Desert Mountain game to benefit the Play Big Scholarship in memory of Samantha Stachel a former Chaparral Student.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT REPORT
Student government is holding a blood drive which fills up fast. Flash and homecoming were very successful.
PRINCIPAL UPDATE
· Newsweek ranked Chaparral as the #22 high school in the nation!
· Suicide prevention groups will be in the cafeteria tomorrow.
· Chaparral has 16 National Merit finalists. Names will be announced later this week.
· Dr. Peterson office hours are 5-6:30 on 9/23.
· Grade check is Wednesday. Any student with an F or below a 2.0 is ineligible for sports.
· Amphitheatre is getting an inspection in the next week or so and then hopefully the concrete will be poured.
· Future Firebird night is January 21, 2015 and parent night is Jan 28th
· PSAT will be taken by all sophomores on October 29th (late start day for everyone not taking the test) It is free for the sophomores. Juniors can also take it that day, but they must pay in the bookstore.
· Math tutoring time/teachers is on the website
· Sept 10th Duke is here doing a selective college admission talk. Sept 17th is in-state college night.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES – August 18, 2014 meeting
Ginger Walker motioned to accept the August 18, 2014 meeting minutes. Jean Perkins seconded. The motion passed with all ayes and no nays.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Michelle Kimes went over the financials. Total bank balance is about $96,288 (between checking and saving).
FUNDING REQUESTS

Jane Pederson went over the funding request. Motion made by Carla Monson to approve the funding requests. Michelle Kimes seconded. The motion passed with all ayes and no nays.
NEW BUSINESS – M&O Discussion
· M&O Discussion – Sandy Kravetz factually discussed the M&O override. If you have an 18+ year old, please make sure he/she is registered to vote. Everyone needs to vote.
· 9/18 coffee & pastries offsite meeting open to the public
· 9/23 Valley Interfaith is sponsoring a meeting at Mtn View from 6:30-8pm
· Sunday 10/5 M&O Walk. Meet at Chaparral at 2pm.
· Lemonade stands by elementary students October 1st on early release day.
· October 1st support override by sharing favorite school memory
· Ballots are out October 9th
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS
§ Project Graduation – preparation is underway. Need committee chairs for casino, carnival & buses.
§ Hospitality – just hosted a successful morning teacher treats.
§ College and Career – Newsletter is coming out soon, many college visits planned.
§ Library Volunteers – In need of easy chair donations.
§ Attendance Office Volunteers – no report.
VICE-PRESIDENTS’ REPORTS
· MEMBERSHIP/DIRECTORY – appx $46,000 has been raised and 414 families have joined
· COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING – no report
· FUNDRAISING
▪ Community Programs/Passive Fundraisers – a volunteer is needed to manage this. Please link your Fry’s card and participate. Working on Whole Foods community partner day.
