Literary Terms

Directions:Write the correct literary term from the word bank next to its definition. Then complete the puzzle at the end for a message.

16) – Definition: Emotion conveyed in a story by the author or narrator

17) – Definition: brief reference within a work to something outside the work that the reader or audience is expected to know (actual or fictitious person/place/thing/etc)

18) – Definition: narrative consistently points to parallel sequence of symbolic ideas; literal and symbolic level

19) – Definition: a scene that takes the narrative back in time from the point the story has reached

20) – Definition: when something is said that is the opposite of what is meant

21) – Definition: a message designed to persuade its intended audience to think and behave in a certain manner
