Welcome to the Department of Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Administration (DPPA)

Pharmaceuticals are indispensable to healthcare systems, as they reduce morbidity and mortality rates and enhance patients' quality of life. However, in order to have effective and efficient use of pharmaceuticals, it is necessary to have access to high-quality, safe, available and affordable medicines. This is why access to health cares and essential medicines is increasingly being viewed as a fundamental human right.

Development and diffusion of high technique and expensive health technologies in past decades has raised serious concerns about fair accessibility ofhigh-quality, safe and affordable medicines. It is estimated that around 2 billion people (one third of the global population) do not have regular access to essential medicines. This proportion in some low‐income countries is increased to one half of the population.

Availability of experts in the fields of pharmacoeconomics and pharmaceutical Administration is of the key parameters for monitoring, evaluating and reporting the performance of healthcare systems in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and equity of their services. The DPPA was developed in summer 2008 in response to this need. The aim of DPPA is to offer high-quality education in the fields of pharmacoeconomics and pharmaceutical Administration at PhD level.
