Safe Practice for competitions
Before commencement of every session, students are reminded by their school staff of the safety precautions.Waiting batsmen should observe from a safe position (afPE 2012 – 5.6.77)
Batter should be positioned to provide a reasonable boundary and avoid the risk of balls being hit at awaiting batters and doorways/windows.
Ensure that the cricket bats have a good grip on them.
Rules administered by the cricket governing bodies of sport relating to close in fielding by junior players should be strictly enforced (afPE 2012 – 5.6.75)
Umpires are instructed not to allow a ball to be delivered if a fielder is within the restricted distance.
Small group warm ups: be aware of ball direction if practising shots.
The rules and etiquette of the game should be known and applied by all involved
The laws of the game should be understood, observed and implemented as appropriate.
The safe distance of the fielders to the batter should be considered depending on the age of the players and the type of ball used.
Bowlers should bowl in a controlled order and always ensure the batsman is fully ready (afPE 2012 – 5.6.76)
All pupils are wearing appropriate clothing, footwear and any protective clothing for the activity.
Ensure all jewellery is off and hair tied back
Teacher from each school has checked and has knowledge of action for pupils with medical conditions and emergency contacts
Teacher from each school is responsible for the control of their own school group at all times
Clear procedures throughout festival.
Ensure that the activities undertaken are suitable for the age group and ability of pupils
Pupils should be suitably fit and adequately prepared for all activities and made aware of their personal responsibilities for their own safety and that of others
Teacher is in appropriate position in relation to their group throughout the game.
Each school is to bring their own first aid kit with them and provide first aid if required.
Each school group keeps their bags and kit safe
Spectators must watch from the designated areas and not go into the playing area.
The chewing of sweets or gum must not be allowed.
