BULLDOG BULLETIN NOVEMBER 2009

BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE VICE PRESIDENTS CLUB

30 JOINED, TARGET 70

The Management Committee for the South Augusta football wishes it members and supporters a Merry Xmas and a Happy New year and hopefully a great for the Bulldogs in 2010.

Don’t forget the football Clubs AGM on Wednesday 2nd December with Committee members required and positions vacant for Vice Presidents, Treasurer and Secretary. Please get along and help the club by being on the Committee. It’s a great opportunity to be involved with the clubs future and brings ideas to the table.

Congratulations to Anthony Anno who was selected as A grade coach for the 2010 season, Mark Austin B Grade coach and Robert Laube Under 18s coach. If you are able to help out as team manager, runner or trainer please let these lads know as we still need officials in these areas.

Pre season training has already started with around 10-15 players attending the Monday night sessions. Players and supporters are invited to a Xmas drink and supper on Thursday 10th December at the club starting at around 5pm. Pre season training starts again in early January and the Football committee has been busy chasing up players for the 2010 season, competing with other clubs who have far better resources however they have been able to achieve some great signings with 2 Quorn lads coming across at this stage.

Although clearances have not been submitted it seems that we may have lost 3 players to Centrals which is very disappointing and there is talk that others may be playing with Coober Pedy. Some of the younger lads may have to leave to pursue studies away from the town so hopefully we can keep the group together and we are confident that we will have a team that is motivated to get us to the finals next year.

Stuart Green has started conducting his personal trainer business with the support of the Management Committee at South’s new gym with equipment received from a $8,000 grant from Clubs SA. Stuart will conduct sessions on weights and gym exercises for the players and will deliver some training starting in January 2010 with senior players, Indigenous people and Under 15s and under 18s. The Indigenous gym grant worth $3,000 will provide new gym equipment and training through Stuart’s services.

It was sad to hear the news of the death of Shirley Chapman who is the wife of David “ Stan” Chapman who played for the club from 1962 to 1973 and was part of the 1972 B grade premiership side. Shirley died in Qld and leaves behind 3 children Sue Ann, Felicia and Stuart. Stan was a great worker and player for the club during his playing days and our thoughts are with him

Don’t forget the Annual Xmas dinner on Friday 11th December where Whitey serves up a 3 course meal including soup, a traditional roast turkey with ham and sweets of sticky date pudding or fruit salad. The normal meals of snitzel, rump and fish are also still available. Bookings must be in by the 7th December to Denise at the club on 86424565. Prices $14 Full serve, $10 half serve

Cricket ; The A grade has a great recent win over top team Centrals and are around the mark early in the season and its great to see former Under 17 players in Nathan Nistico, Ben Trewartha and Marcus Gill performing at the highest level.

The B have been in a similar position and are in top position together within Under 17s and Under 14s third so the boys are performing well on the field this year so far. The Cricket junior team’s purchase of a ball machine has been a great investment and is being used regularly, no-one is yet game to face the 160km/hr speed it is capable of.

A few of the boys are planning to go to the Adelaide test on Saturday the 5th December for a reunion of the 1989/90 Premiership side. They plan to meet in front of the Chappell stands at around 11am. Scores on the day South 184 defeated Wills den 128. Highlights Noogs Rozee, bowled by Scharenburg for 19, bowling was 2/41 off 12 overs, J Waterworth 11 and 3/21 , Iain Elliott out for a duck, made up for it with 3/40 off 12 though, good comeback!

Mark Bowman- 76 and man of the match and Kym Maule 35 and involved with a 66 run partnership with Bowy after they were in early strife, match winning I presume! Trzeciak caught Boles for 0, Everett 2, normally hit and misses and must have missed that day. Bowling 0/1 of 1.1, he had a big day. Played on 10/3/09 and umpires Dean Adams and Barry Patterson ( deceased) . If you’re interested to join us see you there

Where are they now: It was great to hear recent from Brett” Bart” Cummins was involved with the club in the early eighties during our successful period. Bart was heavily involved on the committee and was a great clubman during his stint as a teacher at Port Augusta, Bart currently teaches in Kapunda and is married with 1 daughter , he gave us a call to tell us about a possible recruit so his work continues, many thanks Bart

Souths Snippets: Great to see a few of the players turn up for the photoshoot for the Club calendar to be released in the near future. The Calendar organised by the Ladies Committee should be a best seller especially after reports that one of the players got all his gear off!! Or perhaps this could result in a decrease in sales, keep a look out for its release.

Club bags $25, Bucket hats $20, Flags $20 and Shirts reduced to $15 for Xmas, please see Val Waterworth is you’re interested. Club membership due- Family $25, Singles $20, pensioners $8

Volunteers: Many thanks to 2 lads who installed the airconditioners at the club recently. Andrew Reynolds and Michael Curley , both current players spent some of the weekend installing the units and they will soon be commissioned to add to the older units currently in operation and recently not coping too well with the recent heatwave. Well done lads

Whitey needs volunteers for the Knights of the Southern Cross dinner on the 5th December and if you have the time see him about helping out in the kitchen for the several school dinners that have been booked during December. Give him a call on 86425092.

Two new crews are required for Friday night teas , the club needs help urgently and its only cooking every 6 -7 weeks if you come on board, please see Whitey if you can help.

Bullseye club Sunday 6th December: Don’t forget the $500 draw at the club, cheap beers and supper provided, club opens at 11am draw at 12 noon

RACING TIPS; 35 members this year, well done Harry, it seems Kelly Grantham is leading the pack again and he would be worth a fortune if he put his money on some of those tips.

I bet there were a few strikes talked about at the 50th year Baseball reunion that President Peter Huxtable attended recently. Hosted by Ports club at Port Pirie, Hucky is a Life member of the Baseball Association together with South Football Club this year and 2 other sports, gee he must be old!

The Committee has been formed for the new shed renovations and thanks to the Ladies Committee donation $1,000, Colts Committee $1,000, Table Tennis $200, Denise’ Lucky Squares $50 and Door takings $250 we now have over $10,000 to spend on the new facility. Plans are being submitted and its all hands on decks once Council approval is obtained and the new shed purchased, see Val Waterworth if you want to get involved and we still need donations to make it a great facility.
