SUMMARY

Directs and coordinates activities concerned with administration of city or county, in accordance with Board of Education standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Formulates plans and policies for educational program and submits them to Board of Education for approval.

Executes policies of the board and implement regulations which conform to these policies.

Ensures the implementation of State mandated programs and regulations.

Administers program for selection of school sites, construction of buildings, and provision of equipment and supplies.

Directs preparation and presentation of school budget and determines amount of school bond issues required to finance educational program.

Addresses community and civic groups to enlist their support.

Provides opportunities for communication with certificated and classified staff.

Interprets program and policies of school system to school personnel, to individuals and community groups, and to governmental agencies.

Coordinates work of school system with related activities of other school districts and agencies.

Ensures that laws applying to attendance of children at school are enforced.

Supervises examining, appointing, training, and promotion of teaching personnel.

Plan agendas for school board meetings.

Ensure that all employees have job descriptions.

To select and recommend to the board competent employees.

Conduct continuous evaluations of all school board personnel.

Maintain the high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in all personal and professional matters.

Dress in an appropriate manner that is considered well-groomed.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) or equivalent; or more than 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, teachers, administrators, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or school board.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Hold a valid superintendent's license issued by the State Board of Education

Hold a valid Virginia driver's license
