DIVERSITY PEER EDUCATORS PROGRAM:

The Office for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion will hire20 DPEsfor AY 2017-2018 to address the need for bridging and belonging, sustained dialogue, and training opportunities by employing elements of the Intergroup Dialogue program at Harvard College. DPEs will work together as a team and will receive specialized weekly training from department administrators. The main purpose of the Diversity Peer Educator program is to take a proactive approach in building relationships between and among communities and to promote dialogue as an on-going exercise.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Work as part of the EDI and DPE team to plan and facilitate peer-to-peerdialogues that address a wide range of social justice, diversity and inclusion issues and topics.
  • Plan and implementat least one House/Dorm Project each semester
  • Seek out opportunities for collaborative projects with departments, Houses and student organizations.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the Office for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion within other communities on the Harvard College campus.
  • Support the EDI staffin the creation and implementation of campus wide programming efforts.
  • Participate in weekly trainings and staff meetings led by EDI staff.
  • Attend, regular weekly office hours to complete DPE work.
  • Participate in DPE retreat during January term: January 18-19, 2018.
  • When EDI Office opens in Grays Hall, complete one “night shift” every other week for 2.5 hrs.
  • Commit to work for the 2017-2018 academic year with a possibility of continuation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to understand and articulate social justice, diversity and inclusion issues.
  • Must be committed to the mission of the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
  • Proven experience working cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills & ability to work collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and faculty.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and multiple projects.
  • Ability to stay abreast of current events on campus and general campus climate.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn and develop new skills.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT AND MANDATORY DATES:

  • Must be available to work 8-10 hours per week at $11/hour.
  • Attend mandatory weeklyDPE Staff Meeting and DPE Training provided by the EDI staff.
  • Complete 4-6 hours of project-based work per week in the DPE office, to include a weekly check-in with supervisor(s). These will be considered “Office Hours”.
  • Be available to attend DPE retreat at the end of winter session: January 18-19, 2018.
