JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:Deputy Manager(Supported Living)

Responsible to:Trustees

Location:Reading (Berkshire)

Main Purpose

To work with individual’s in their home, respecting privacy and dignity.To assume responsibility for all aspects of the tenant’s housing related support and personal care needs as identified in their Support Plan/Service Contract.

To work under the direction of the Trustees in line with operational policies laid down by the Trust and in line with local authority and national guidelines currently in force.

To participate in a structure of service delivery which involveshaving primary responsibility for supporting thetenants.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To be directly responsible to the Manager and to the Trustees.
  2. To take responsibility of the home in the absence of the Manager.
  3. To chair tenant reviews and assessments as and when required.
  4. To direct Support Staff in the absence of the Manager.
  5. To maintain dialogue with Care Managers/family members/advocates and all other relevant professionals.
  6. To support in the organization of social activities and to participate in them to help promote the tenants esteem and physical and emotional wellbeing.
  7. To accompany the tenants on community visits, where requires and as duty rotas permit.
  8. To provide the appropriate level of support to our tenants at all times.
  9. To support our tenants within all lifeskills activities.
  10. To be able to deal with verbally challenging situations.
  11. To assist our tenants with the cleaning of their general environment and to ensure all hygiene concerns are addressed.
  12. To support the tenants in the purchase, preparation and cooking of their food in order to establish a greater level of independence.
  13. To monitor residents health and report any changes to the Manager.
  14. To help maintain a safe and healthy environment within the Home paying due regard to the appropriate Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations. To report any accidents or incidents to the Manager.
  15. To read and write reports, and to participate in staff and residents meetings as appropriate.
  16. To participate in training activities/courses as directed by the Manager.
  17. To socialize with our tenants and to involve them in conversation and activity, to listen to what they have to say and to be alert for concerns which may not be vocalized.
  18. In conjunction with the Care Manager, ensure that tenants personal finances are in order and that records are kept. Ensure that all transactions are recorded.
  19. To be aware of the tenants GP, Dentist, Optician, Hospital and any other medical appointments as relevant and to support when required.
  20. Maintain an appropriate professional relationship with the tenants.
  21. To inform family members of a tenants illness.
  22. To maintain records of activities, visits etc. within appropriate formats.
  23. To ensure your compliance of all policies and procedures held within the Home.
  24. To attend staff and house meetings.
  25. To attend all training sessions relevant to your duties.
  26. Receive, transmit and record all phone and email messages sent to the home in a professional manner.
  27. To work as part of a small team providing cover within a rota system.
  28. To carry out sleep-in duties as designated by the Manager, this will generally be two sleep-ins per week.
  29. To act in a manner that does not bring St Luke’s into disrepute.
  30. To undertake other duties as reasonably requested by your Manager.

Any such changes will be discussed and agreed with the post holder.

The post holder is expected to be conversant with and work within the aims and objectives of the Charity and to adhere to current policies, practices and procedures.

The Trustees, following consultation reserve the right to make reasonable changes to this job description.
