Potterville Public Schools: Middle and High School Student Support Counselor
Potterville Public Schools is welcoming applicants for a guidance counselor position for the 2016-2017 school year. The district seeks qualified applicants to provide guidance counseling for the district’s middle and high school students.
Potterville Public Schools’ enrollment remains steady, and the district recently passed a bond proposal to update all technology in the classrooms, to provide access to one-to-one computing for all K-12 students, and to upgrade district security features for the facilities. In addition, the district is building the capacity to make dramatic increases in our student achievement. Part of this capacity is the district’s innovative Student Support Network which works towards meeting all the needs of our student population. The district seeks an innovative and passionate educationprofessional to join our team to continue the forward progress and change necessary for educational excellence. This position will be a key member of the Student Support Network team.
The desired candidate must possess the following attributes:
- Background, training, experienceand certification in guidance counseling services for studentsgrades 5-12.
- Familiarity with special education processes and laws
- Knowledge of district and state curriculum standards necessary for high school graduation
- Knowledge and ability to utilize local and state-wide mental health resources
- Knowledge and ability to utilize county career education resources/CTE
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Community tenets as espoused by DuFour, Eaker, and DuFour
- Familiarity with Marzano’s The Art and Science of Teaching, classroom engagement techniques, learning goals and scales, and formative assessment techniques
- Understanding of, or demonstrated training in positive behavior supports and response to intervention systems
- Exceptional communication, analysis, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to recruit, enroll, schedule and retain district and school of choice students
- Ability to positively and professionally respond to the individual needs of students
- Understanding of, or demonstrated training, in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor
- Impeccable character, a good sense of humor, and compassion for students, school colleagues, and district families
Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- A valid Michigan teaching certificate with a guidance and counseling endorsement
- Ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and district colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to sustain and improve student achievement outcomes by supporting students who need a listening ear, access to support services, and other advocacy programs for students
- Willingness to contribute to a safe school climate of high expectations and strong collaboration, high staff and student morale, and positive community involvement

- Starting date: August 25, 2016
- Calendar: teacher calendar of 185 work days
- Compensation: Salary commensurate with the credentials and experience of the candidate, per current CBA with an employee association
