APPLICATION FOR BALFOUR EMERGING LEADER SCHOLARSHIP

Texas A&M University–Kingsville, through Balfour College Jewelry Company will provide an academic scholarship to a sophomore residing in a University residence hall. The scholarship is aimed at students involved in leadership activities and who have positively impacted the campus and/or the community. To be considered, the applicant must obtain but not exceed sophomore status prior to the Fall 2014 Semester (completed 30-59 hours) and reside on campus during the 2014-2015 academic year. To apply, applicant must submit an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT and provide documentation which addresses the criteria listed on this application. Completed applications must be received in the Office of Student Activities located in the Memorial Student Union Building room 301 no later than Friday, April 4, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.

The recipient will receive a $1,500 scholarship which will be awarded for the Fall 2014 semester ($750) and Spring 2015 semester ($750).

SELECTION CRITERIA

Please respond to the following by typing your documentation on a separate sheet of paper. Include your name on every page and attach all documentation to this application.

Leadership:

List in bullet form all the leadership positions you have held at Texas A&M University–Kingsville, e.g., student organizations, committees, presentations, etc. Indicate how these positions or presentations contributed to your professional development as a leader. Also indicate any future plans you have to improve your leadership skills. (20 points)

Campus and Community Service:

Describe and provide examples how you have positively impacted the campus and community at-large by your involvement. (20 points)

Letters of Recommendations:

Attach two letters of recommendation from faculty/staff members who can attest to your character and emerging leadership skills. (20 points)


Resume:

Please submit your resume indicating any employment on or off campus, special skills, awards, etc. (20 points)

Transcript:

Please submit your official University transcript. (10 points)

Other:

Provide other pertinent information that will assist the committee in deciding why you should be awarded this scholarship. (10 points)

Note: Excluding letters of recommendation and transcripts, all narrative information submitted should not exceed three double-spaced pages. Completed applications must be in by 5:00 p.m. Friday April 4, 2014 in the Office of Student Activities located in the Memorial Student Union Building, room 301.
