POSITION:Assistant Professor of Mathematics

DEPARTMENT:Mathematics, Computer Science, & Information Systems

REPORTS TO:Chair of Mathematics, Computer Science & Information Systems

CONTRACT TERMS:Nine-month, tenure track position

PRIMARY DUTY: The faculty member will teach courses within the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Information Systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Teach general education and developmental mathematics courses (12 credit hours per trimester)
  2. Teach mathematical methods courses
  3. Conduct research in mathematics/mathematics education
  4. Advise students
  5. Participate in curriculum development
  6. Provide service to the department and to the University
  7. Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Ph.D. in Mathematics or Mathematics Education by June 1, 2014

Experience: Teaching experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Ph.D. in Mathematics Education

Experience:Experience in teaching computer-based modular mathematics courses and/or liberal arts mathematics courses; teaching K-12 using appropriate technology

WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical classroom and office conditionswith student focused office hours required; in addition for Assistant Professor, travel to St. Joseph for face-to-face sessions of blended-delivery graduate courses.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Academic advisor of graduate and undergraduate majors.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Typical classroom and office equipment; in addition for the Assistant Professor position, instructional technologies as needed.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
