Phase II: Structured Reflection

Definition – Phase II is designed to promote professional learning through structured reflection on practice.

A. Curriculum Conferences - The major focus of this phase will be determined by the

building’s administrative team. Direction will be given to each teacher regarding the goal(s) of this reflective phase of the differentiated evaluation plan. A teacher-constructed portfolio will be utilized to document progress in this phase. The portfolio could take a variety of formats including a three-ring binder, an electronic portfolio, or a collection of audio performances. This portfolio will be reviewed at all curriculum conferences. These conferences will be scheduled and may be initiated by either the administrator or teacher. The curriculum conferences may include additional topics of discussion as deemed necessary throughout the year.

B.  Portfolio Guidelines - Portfolios will include the following components:

1.  A statement of the goal(s) being investigated during the year.

2.  Artifacts will be used to support the goal(s).

3.  Each artifact included in the portfolio should be followed by a written reflection. The reflection should address the purpose, content, student response, effectiveness, and the instructional impact of the artifact.

4.  A minimum of four artifacts and reflections that demonstrate progress on the identified goal(s) will be included for the mid-year curriculum conference. A minimum of four additional artifacts and reflections will be added for the final curriculum conference.

5.  The teacher should prepare a 5-7 minute summation of their portfolio for their final curriculum conference.
