The Big Fundraiser Update from the Chairman
A massive ‘congratulations’ is due to everybody who has contributed thus far to raise funds for Harmston Memorial Hall.
If you have driven past recently you will have noticed building activity has begun on site. The remarkable thing is that it has only taken us just over a year to raise the funds to complete phases 1 and 2 of the project. £20,000 pounds has been raised from memorable village events and two grants have been awarded. £33,000 from Lincolnshire and North Kesteven Councils and £49,500 from BIFFA. Another award has been successful but it is currently tied up with red tape. If we can release it or even some of it we can complete our project as we first envisaged. So we still have some fundraising left to do because we would love to complete the hall with new updated technology and lighting and have a more flexible staging set-up. So once again we are appealing to your generosity of time and effort to help us complete the Hall at the Heart of Harmston before the end of August.
Particularly look out for the second Jam Jar June, and the Jamboree on the playing-field in Harmston Park. Just come along and support all our events and together we will get there.
A Big Big thankyou to you all for your help and support so far. Keith Elms ( Chairman)
And from our County and District Councillor…
"Harmston has established a reputation for its excellent diversity and quality of events and they well deserve the funding and support for this exciting improvement. Events vary from nationally famous singers and comedy groups to art exhibitions, family barbecues and plant sales, always something for everyone. There will be the inevitable period of disruption within the constraints of a village, but once it's done, we can look forward to an ever-growing programme of excellent events for all. Congratulations to Keith Elms, the memorial hall committee and all who have supported this work so far. "
Kindest regards, Marianne
Cllr Mrs Marianne Overton MBE
What Amazing Talent Harmston Has!
Our Harmston’s Hidden Talent event, very kindly organised by Kate Sell, was a huge success. Many of you came along to appreciate and purchase the arts and crafts on offer - hand-made jewellery, glasswork, painting, baking and chocolate making, not forgetting the cakes and refreshments – an impressive £495 was raised in one afternoon – thank you to you all!
Sue’s Marathon Achievement!
Well done to Sue Gordon for completing the London marathon and for raising funds for us in the process! A few words from Sue: ‘If you could pass on my thanks to all those in Harmston who sponsored me, it was a great experience doing the race and I would do it again! I raised over £500 for NSPCC and over £500 for RAFA/Harmston Memorial Hall and completedthe Marathon in 4 hours 42 minutes.’
Are you a pianist? If so - your Memorial Hall needs you!!
Harmston Harmonies are reuniting to perform at the upcoming WW1 commemoration on 4th October and desperately need a pianist, as their usual musician Paul is unfortunately going to be away. You would need to be available on that date as well as rehearsals at intervals from late May onwards. If you can help please contact Gill on 721954 or on the email below.
Jam Jar June
Again, during the month of June, we ask if you could pop any coins that you have in your pockets or purses at the end of each day into a Jam Jar, or similar container. Then at the end of the month, donate the contents to Operation Heartbeat Project. Jars will be collected at the special Jamboree event or you can call Gill on 721954 to arrange collection. This is our only ‘donation’ event each year so please dig deep and let’s see if we can beat last year’s fantastic total!
‘On the River’ – still some copies left if you haven’t got yours yet!
A compilation of 36 short stories written by Harmston resident, Rosemary King.
The short stories are based on her experiences and recollections of life in Africa and around the world. The book is beautifully illustrated by Asif Kamal, also a Harmston resident. Contact Rosemary on 01522 721187 or email HMH.
