FEDERAL CUTS TO HEAD START AND EARLY HEAD START AND THE IMPACT AT THE LOCAL LEVEL

From Head Start of Greater Dallas CEO Kenneth Gilbert

Dallas, TX, March 5, 2013 –Head Start of Greater Dallas' CEO, Kenneth Gilbert, comments on received updates due to the sequester to Head Start and the impact on Head Start of Greater Dallas.

With the sequester and it’s unfortunate cuts in place, Head Start of Greater Dallas has received new information about the effects on the organization and it’s families.

The impact of the federal sequester to Head Start of Greater Dallas, Inc. will be approximately $1.85 million based on a 5 percent cut in Head Start funding within the federal 2012-13 fiscal year. The new information is better than the 9 percent previously reported. However, this will still result in more than 360 Head Start of Greater Dallas children losing services in the current school year.

Head Start of Greater Dallas will consult with its partner agencies to develop appropriate strategies to transition to the new service delivery environments as seamlessly as is feasible. Our focus during this challenge will be to continue to provide the highest quality services to Dallas County children and families within the scope of available resources.
