The Aston Leadership & Teamworking Programme

The Aston Leadership & Teamworking Programme aims to enable individuals to lead a team through a journey of development towards improved team based working. Participants attend five one-dayworkshops which will be held at monthly intervals (after initial two).

Please note that all participants must attend all five days and the briefing session.

Participants will be supported to work with their team colleagues back in their team to:

  • Identify team boundaries and key inter-team dependencies
  • Clarify team vision and objectives
  • Identify performance criteria and monitoring processes
  • Develop effective team and inter-team structures
  • Increase levels of participation and effective communication
  • Maintain and develop a focus on quality and innovation
  • Improve inter-team working relationships

During the workshops participants will:

  • Gain knowledge and information about effective team structures, processes and behaviours
  • Become familiar with a range of tools and techniques which they can use in their teams to bring about required improvements – a very comprehensive participant workbook is provided to support team activities
  • Develop plans to improve aspects of team working in their own teams
  • Review the outcomes of actions during the periods between workshops

Workshop Two – Awareness of self & others - MBTI

Workshop Three - Developing Team Synergy

Workshop Four – Increasing Participation

Workshop Five - Developing a Focus on Quality and Innovation

Between Workshops

The amount of time participants will be required to work with their teams on programme related activities between sessions will vary. Some teams will already be demonstrating good practice in all areas – and so there will be little additional time requirement. Participants will be encouraged to make their own assessments of team development requirements and plan their time accordingly. A typical time commitment for each participant will be an additional 3 to 4 hours per month in contact time with their team as a whole.

Target group

The programme is aimed at staff in those in leadership and team leader roles (indicative bands 6, 7 and 8)but also including medics and clinicians working with and/or leading multi-disciplinary teams. Applications should be supported by your line manager.
