Ambassador AmbassadorMadhvani has said that the late Dr, Edroma played a pivotal role in preparing the documentation for the inscription of Queen Elizabeth National Park as a World Heritage Site. That he also served as Uganda's representative on the UNESCO Executive Board until his passing. She noted that Dr. Edroma will always be remembered for winning an emblem ofrecognition fromUNESCO in 1982, which he wore with pride until his death and that Uganda as a whole is honoured by this achievement.

STATEMENT BY H.E MADHVANI NIMISHA, AMBASSADOR AND PERMANENT DELEGATION OF UGANDA DURING THE OPENING OF THE 197 SESSION OF UNESCO EXECEUTIVE BOARD MEETING 13 OCTOBER 2015

Members of the Executive Board,

Distinguished, ladies and gentlemen,

Thank you Mr. Chairman for calling on me to say some few words about the lateDr Eric Edroma who died on 30th September 2015.He played a pivotal role in preparing the documentation for the inscription of Queen Elizabeth National Park as a World Heritage Site.

Dr, Edroma served as Uganda's representative on the Executive Board until his passing.

Hewill always be remembered for winning an emblem ofrecognition fromUNESCO in 1982, which he wore with pride until his death. Uganda as a whole is honoured bythis achievement.

Dr Eric Edroma was the first Executive Director of the Uganda Wild Life Authority (UWA) and is creditedfor what Uganda has achieved in Wildlife Conservation and wildlife clubs that are in schools today. He was CoFounder of the Wildlife Clubs of Uganda with a major objective of providingUgandan youth with conservation education and opportunities to participate in conservation activities.

He will also be remembered for advocating for establishment of a forest department in Uganda in 1990 and increasing the number of National Parks of Uganda from 3 to 10.

Dr Edroma was very intelligent throughout his education, and always won scholarships.

When he left UWA in 1997 after reaching the retirement age of 60, he joined Makerere University as a parttime lecturer, fulltime senior lecturer at Nkumba University. In 2003, he received the American Biographical Institute medal.In 2006, he received another U.S. Presidential award through the National Council for Science and Technology, where he had been Vice-Chairman for eight years. In 2003, Dr Edroma won a European Business Assembly Award in London, when hewas recognised for his contribution to research in natural and cultural sectors and promotion of higher education.

President Museveni, Government of the Republic of Uganda and the family of Dr EricEdroma thank UNESCO for remembering such a humble and able man committed to the causes of UNESCO.

May we continue to be inspired by his commitment.

Uganda has lost a passionate conservationist and a true inspiration for the African continent and the world as a whole.

May God give his soul eternal peace.
