Directions for Word Squares: Students draw a large box for each word and divide it into four equal sections. I showed students that they can fit four boxes on each side of the paper. In the first box, students write the vocabulary word. In the second box, students write a definition or synonym for the word; in the third box, students draw a quick illustration of the word; and in the fourth box, students write a non-example or antonym for the word. A dictionary or thesaurus (printed or online) are great resources for this activity.
