Read & Remember

Read & Remember is a Scotland-wide library promotion which commemorates the Great War and highlights reading material about the First World War.

The aim is for every library in Scotland to take part and promote relevant stock during February to April 2015 and is being launched on National Libraries Day Saturday 7th February.

From fictional family stories to the real, gritty and sometimes gruesome true stories told in biographies and historical non-fiction, the content covers a wide variety of tastes and subjects all focussing on living during the conflict.

A range of promotional materials has been created so that even the smallest library can participate in the WWI themed Read & Remember campaign.Comments cards will be part of the promotion and readers’ are invited to give their thoughts on the book they borrowed from the display or retell a family story from World War I. These cards will be displayed with poppies attached as part of the promotion.

Moray Libraries are pleased to take part in this initiative and are proud to remember and honour the fallen through reading and literature.

National Libraries Day Saturday 7th February

National Libraries Day is a day to celebrate libraries, all those who work in libraries and all that happens in libraries, especially the benefits and joy of reading.

All Moray Libraries are geared up to shout about what they do and encourage their library customers to tell about their visits to their library.

Moray Libraries want everyone to know how wide a range of services is provided in their libraries and want their customers to show what the library has been able to provide for them. So there will be a collection of photographs of customers holding a poster on which they have written what they did at the library – ‘I applied for a bus pass, I emailed my family overseas, I borrowed a DVD, I attended a Reading Group’ – to name a few of the possibilities.

During the week running up to Saturday 7th February Moray Libraries will be asking their customers to recommend a ‘Good Read’ whether it is their all time favourite book or something they have enjoyed recently. It has been proven that one person telling another about a book is the most powerful form of promotion there is so this is the perfect opportunity to pass on a recommendation.

Children are not forgotten and all junior borrowers using each library in Moray during the week beginning 2nd February will be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a specially selected book.

There will special Bookbug sessions in Elgin, Forres, Keith and Buckie libraries on National Libraries Day, Saturday 7th February at 11am. These are distinctive story and rhyme sessions for parents and babies introducing language, song and actions to further bonding and promote reading and books and are very popular throughout libraries in Moray.
