Julie Tang (BP Project Director) gave a huge thank you to Gordon for his 10 years of service on the BP Committee.

·  Julie Tang shared that Meg Booth and Jim Sutherland sent their regrets in not being able to join the call due to schedule conflicts. Welcome extended to Jessie Buerlin, CDHP who is joining the call for Meg Booth.

3.  Progress report on recent BP Project activities provided by BP Project Director:

·  BP article published in AMCHP newsletter August 2009 issue highlighting school oral health and featuring TN’s school preventive dental program: See handout: AMCHP Newsletter - BP Project's Article

·  AAP has invited BP Project to provide BP links and dental public health links as Web resources for their members. Julie provided a mock-up of the AAP Oral Health Initiative (OHI) Website and examples of links to add to each “state page” of the AAP site. BP Committee members suggested that we make additional efforts to identify and tailor the resource links to best meet the needs for AAP members/pediatricians. Also suggested further dialogue with Wendy Nelson, AAP OHI Manager. Lynn suggested consulting the AAP oral health advisory committee; Steve suggested asking pediatric residents. Julie will contact Wendy. See handout: AAP Oral Health Initiative Website - ASTDD & BP Links

·  Julie prepared a report on the BP Website’s current status with a proposal for Web expansion. Key points of the report were reviewed. BP Committee members were invited to provide feedback within 2 weeks. Julie will revise the report and submit it to Dean Perkins and will ask for a response from the ASTDD Web Committee. See handout: BP Website - Current Status & Expansion Proposal

·  Steve reviewed the list of preliminary ideas for BP Communication. Steve and Lynn decided to wait for the ASTDD Communication Committee to plan activities and the BP Communication Team will wait ~3 months before further planning/implementation. See handout: BP Communication - Preliminary Ideas

·  Julie reported that progress continues on collecting ~35+ new practice submissions for the 2 new BP Approach Reports (25 have been finalized and the remainder are in final stage of completion). Projected timeline is to have all submissions finalized by 11/30/09. Julie reviewed the list of new submissions. See handout: New Practice Submissions for Review

4.  Announcements & Discussions:

·  The BP Committee will focus on releasing the 2 new BP Approach Reports on school oral health and early childhood oral health in January 2010 (along with 35+ new submissions featured in these reports). These 2 reports will provide states with two new resources to share with their partners and stakeholders for Children’s Dental Health Month in Feb. 2010.

·  Julie discussed with the BP Committee how best to assign the new practice submissions for review. Committee asked for assignments to the 3 BP Review Teams with each submission assigned to a primary reader and a secondary reader. Online reviews will start in mid-September 2009. Julie reviewed the instructions and navigation of the online review screens: Online Review of Practice Submissions - Instructions and Online Review of Practice Submissions - Screen Demos

·  Julie discussed needing BP Committee Members for the final editing of the 2 new BP Approach Reports on school oral health and early childhood oral health. After the BP Committee’s review/editing, the reports will be forwarded to ASTDD Management Team for approval. Steve and Sue volunteered to edit the school oral health report. Julie asked Irene Hilton and Barbara Gooch to help with final editing on selected parts of the new early childhood oral health report. Julie provided the link for Steve and Sue to download the school oral health report: BPA Report onSchool Oral Health(9-23-09 draft/Word file)
