BACKGROUND: The BC Ministry of Agriculture Strengthening Farming Unit provides a wide variety of services to the agriculture industry and local governments. Unit areas include land use planning, geographic information systems (GIS) services, climate action and traceability and tracking of livestock premises.The unit also provides support during provincial emergency response as required.The Strengthening Farming Program provides land use planning, Agricultural Land Use Inventories(ALUIs) and GIS services to local governments as well as support for farm practices through a provincial network of Regional Agrologists.

The Strengthening Farming Analyst will contribute to a research project that will look at how local government plans and bylaws are supportive of agriculture, assist with ALUIs and willcontribute to a variety of projects and tasks that span the Strengthening Farming Program and Unit.
This position is based out of the Abbotsford office and may require occasional travel. A Criminal Record Check may be required.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate:
  • Coursework, training or education related to land use planning. Please provide transcripts and identify specific courses on your application that would meet this requirement and topics covered.
  • Ability to use basic computer programs and software, including MS Office and standard office equipment. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS 10.x is an asset.
  • Interest in rural land use planning and/or agriculture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to traveland/or do occasional field work.
